well as we all know ..free flow air box and free flow exhaust will give you better fuel economy and higher horsepower

so would not a tuner box give the same results ?

I am amazed at the mileage some of you are getting with stock 5.4's so much better than me

And I thought I was the only fool driving 100km each day to work in a V8 truck! I've considered (and been advised) getting a little commuter car but I LOVE this darn truck. It is depreciating rapidly with the miles I am putting on it but I've decided I don't really care as I am going to have it till it is old old and then it will stick around as a third vehicle on the farm.

Since there are a lot of Canadian boys here - do you guys do anything for rust control like Krown on your vehicles?
yes. I too have been advised.. but same. I love this truck too much. I bought mine Sept 2009. I'm about to pass 45,000kms.

I figured keep it maintained. and it should last me. Maybe pass it on to my son when he gets old enough.

As for the winter, I've got mine undercoated.

You're probably a smart guy and all, but you're making an *** out of yourself here.

These trucks do seem to run a bit on the rich side. Mine only has ~2200 miles on it and it has a fair amount of carbon build up on the exhaust tip. It might lean out after it breaks in some more, but I've seen other reports on this too.

There are a lot of reasons a manufacturer may choose to run the engine rich. An engine makes the most power at 14.7:1 - but pulling some numbers out of my ***, 12.0:1 - 12.5:1 is probably more like the normal accel ratio. The thing is, it's probably not necessary to run that rich at 50 degree's and low humidity -- but it probably is necessary at 110 degree's and high humidity.

Also, they richen it up a bit to account for fuel anomalies.

I guess what I'm saying is that Ford has chosen to make fuel economy compromises for reliability. A skilled engine tuner can bring some of that fuel economy back without adding much/any risk.

It's not rocket science, and it's true - so stop acting like a dick when you really don't know what you're talking about.

For the record, I'm at 13.2 average on the computer with this winter gas.
