Default USB/Bluetooth not working

The past couple months the USB/Bluetooth audio parts of sync doesn't always work. I don't mean it wont pair with my phone, the whole thing just doesnt work. The voice button on the steering wheel does nothing, cycling through media 'sync' will flash on the screen between cd player and radio for a sec, but just moves ahead.
The problem initially only occured every 5-6 times I started the truck, lately its been every other time.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm still within my bumper to bumper coverage on the used certified program, will this fall under that category?

THANKS!

Hi, Alcoheroe -

I'd like to look into your USB concern.

Which model year is your truck? Does it have a navigation system or a standard radio?

In regards to warranty, send a PM to my counterpart; their handle is FordService.

Its a 2011 XLT crew cab with the standard radio, no navigation.

The only way to get it to work (when it doesnt) is to shut the truck off and restart it. Ive had a couple of extended drives where it didnt work. 2 hour drives arent fun without access to my digital music.

Lately when it is working, when i start the truck and its on usb, it will just say initializing until i pull the USB stick out, put it back in, then tell sync to go back to usb.

My truck just started doing the same thing. although I did get a propmt to register my phone on "syncemyride.com", when I did that there was a propmt that said my sync subscription was over and I needed to sign up for another year at $60.00????!!!!!!

I cant get my phone to sync at all now, I know it isnt the phone since it will sync in my wifes ford edge.

I am using a note 3

I have an iPhone 4S. I can't seem to play any music thru Bluetooth, only way is to plug in the 1/8" iPod jack to the Sync input. Is this the only way or does Bluetooth work for music? I can only seem to get it working for hands free phone calls and that's it. I see from your posts that a USB stick with stores music will work, when it wants to work, is that correct?

Yes it will play any/all audio through bluetooth(I have an iPhone 4s). I love using the Bluetooth audio and the USB stick to play music.....when it works. With Bluetooth, it will actually auto play music on my phone when I get in the truck, I don't even do anything. Same thing with USB. I have a 16gb thumb drive set on shuffle. That's a lot of music. Again....WHEN it works.
My biggest fear is a tech not be able to replicate it in the shop and then it does it after I get home.

Also, I've never subscribed to sync services. I bought used certified from a dealer and they weren't even able to activate a trial subscription for me. They said they would, but I never followed up on it because none of what it did seemed to interest me. All I wanted was to play music from my phone and occasionally use it for phone calls.

I bought my 2011 new and have never been able to leave a MP3 player or USB memory drive plugged into the USB port. It would lock up all sync audio functions and a lot of times the phone as well. The drives worked perfectly as long as I unplugged them when I turned off the truck, then plugged them back in after the truck was already started. My guess is sync is trying to pull software updates from the USB drive upon start up and the existing software just gets confused. A few times when I would forget to unplug the USB I'd even have to do a total factory reset on the radio to get sync audio functions to start working again.
