Colors picked. Per a body shop friend, adhesion spray, then primer. Then 800 grit wet sand then colors. He did it have good things to say about rattle can clear. Hoping these are high gloss enough. If not, I'll get some clear and try .

Insets will be (don't hate me) Chrysler Inferno Red. Surrounds will be metal fleck black.

I chose this red because it is what I had on my previous ram. What a gorgeous color in the bright sun .

So last night i wet sanded the plastic and applied the first coats of the Adhesion Promoter. It lit up the minute remnants of the Plastidip on the outers so I had to sand them a bit more but I was able to get primer put down. I applied 3 coats of the adhesion promoter and then 3 coats of primer. I plan to wet sand them tonight with 400 and 800 and then prime again and sand again. then we will hit them with color. the FX2 letters are the hardest to deal with.

Amazon Amazon

Only rattle can clear coat worth anything... Ive used it on headlights before when it didnt warrant breaking out the spray gun and everything.

Getting to apply red! Three coats of primer. Wet sanded in between each. Final was at 800 grit.

I'm going to put 3 light coats of red on tonight and then wetsand them with 800 tomorrow and toss on another coat or two to see if they are glossy enough.

So, here is the finished tailgate emblem. I am so happy with the way it came out. This is 3 or 4 coats of color and 3 clear. Unfortunately I made a fatal mistake on the two fender emblems and they are now trashed and un-recoverable. I have ordered another set and hope they are 2 piece ones. If anyone has an extra set of the outside parts for the FX2, please pm me.

Finished. I messed up the outsides so these are new with stock color. Inserted my painted ones into it. If I decide I'm unhappy I can redo the new ones.

I really like the way that red came out! I’ve been wanting to do this to my emblems just not sure if I’ll mess up or not! But very well described with every process!
