Default UPgrading my Emblems

after a good wash and polish of my truck, I noticed that the Emblems were fading from where the previous owner had Plastidipped them. Upon further inspection, I tried to peel it off but it must not have been applied properly as it was very thin and would not peel. It seems they used just 2 coats on them. UGH. So i decided that the faded look didnt look good on the truck and popped them off last night.

any suggestions on getting this crap off? I have tried a stripper but that didnt work and started to melt the plastic. I tried soaking them in mineral spirits but that didnt do a whole lot either. I am about to just start sanding them down completely to paint them.

also, what do you think about doing a deep red underneath with a high gloss black?

I tried to remove plasti-dip that wouldn't peel. Wound up using carb cleaner on a rag and just scrubbed. It's strong enough to melt the plasti-Dip but not hurt the emblem.
I think a deep red would look great on your truck. Nice looking rig by the way!

WD-40 will eat the plastidip and make it easier to clean off. Brake fluid will also work. Just spray it on, let it soak and rub it off with a rag.

I bought my truck with the 3rd brake light "dipped" as well as other things and this really helped a lot.

Thanks gents! I will maybe give that a shot. either way, I know now I am going to have to sand unfortunately. I tried to get too aggressive at first. I believe I have some carb cleaner so hopefully that will work a touch. if not, I have borrowed dads sanding machine which has a really fine point so i can get it all done.

FWIW, the seats are black with red piping so I think that red would work to tie in the truck. But also thought about a color match or even a light silver.

Please post up some pictures when you get them done! I vote red but silver would look good also!

I have a brand new set of the red inserts that I'm not going to use. Would save you some time in painting. PM if you're interested.

If you're gonna sand them anyway, sand them smooth and paint them. Thats what I did and looked soooo much better.

Making some progress in getting them sanded down. Need to hit them with some 800 grit to get them super smooth next. Fame plan is to use a black metal fleck paint on the outside with a inferno red insides (deep red with metal fleck). Then a few coats of clear on all.

Not perfect, but much better than the chrome. I went with Duplicolor Shadow black chrome. Basically a semi transparent black that allows the original chrome to still show through but "tinted"
