I need to get the sync update for my 2012 also, but it has to be done by the dealership on the earlier versions.

I had my 2009 updated yesterday 4-14-14 and since it was used vehicle the charge was $50. The dealer rep advised me that it was not really needed and to his credit advised me to not do it unless I was having a specific problem. However being a techie and planning to put as many miles on my 2009 as I did my 2003 (215,000 before retiring it) I authorized the update. Really can't see any benefit so far.

This is what I got updated to earlier this year from I believe the original software from 2009.

Version SYNC V2.1

This new software release, based on customer feedback, will improve Ford's 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report features. Now you can disable the '911 Assist is set to Off' speech reminder. If you choose to turn it off, a line of text reminding you that 911 Assist is disabled will continue to be shown on the radio display. In addition to the 911 Assist enhancement, the Auto Vehicle Health Report feature will now have a default setting of 'OFF'. Simply switch to 'ON' if you wish this report to be automatically generated.

Also contained in this release are improvements to USB and Bluetooth features and phone and media device support.

Burke,
I can't find any change at all with the exception of what jt09xlt posted.

I'll keep an eye out for your PM, Burke484. In regards to map updates, I only recommend updating if you find certain addresses or POIs are not listed.

Hey, Stangfire -

To see your version and to check for updates, log in to your www.support.ford.com account. On the right side of the page, you'll see UPDATE SYNC SOFTWARE, click that.

I've been using my sync for about 15months now, and lately its been saying "entering and area use caution" The funny thing is its NEVER done that before and its in my own neighborhood that is 30yrs old!

Is this a reason to upgrade and if so why did it do this?

Cheers,
GREG
