Tuners and warranty.
I remember when I first found this site looking for information for tuning options on my new 2011 Ecoboost. Every thread about tuners always had those first 4 or 5 posts warning them about warranty. I always wanted to ask those guys what moved them to post the dangers of tuners and warranty in every thread about tuners. I have used tuners on previous vehicles before and never had issues with warranty. Have any of you guys with tuners on your 2009+ trucks ran into any warranty issues where a Ford dealership said they will not pay because they found evidence of a tuner? If yes, what was the situation and was it the tuners fault or an actual manufacturers defect?

not yet. But whenever I go into the dealer for a service or warranty work I re-program the truck back to stock and remove any evidence of the tuner. No issues yet knock on wood.

This. They'll never know (or care) if you reset to default factory settings before service.

I know this is an issue with the 5.0 mustangs. When they first came out tuners where running them to lean and would burn up the ring lands on #8 cylinder. Even returned to stock, ford could tell that the computer was previously tuned and denied several people warrenty engines. I have been hesitant to tune my 5.0 mustang or Ecoboost because tof this. But seems that the tuners have the 5.0 mustangs figured out and i haven't heard of 1 ecoboost engine failure yet. So its probably safe.
But moral of the story is, ford can tell that you have tuned a vehicle and if you have something mechanical fail in the engine, and they can some how link the tune to it, they can void your warranty. But ford has to be able to link the failure to the tune.
If you have a main bearing fail, and have a tune, i doubt they can connect them. (maybe)... but if you burn up a turbo or a piston, they will defiantly denie your warranty.

If you restore it back to stock OEM tune before you take it in for any work, if the dealership scans it, it will show 100% stock tune. Then retune it again after you get it back.
I've read some of people say online they got denied for warranty but have yet to see if they state they were on stock or SCT tune and if back to stock, show actual evidence of the warranty being denied for the tune being loaded specifically.
That being said, if you have a catastropic toral failure or something and Ford sends out a rep to investigate it, if they went into the line by line of the PCM, they probably could tell if specifically looking for it but the average dealership when you go in for regular maintenance or warranty work? Just flash it back to stock before you go in and be fine.
And if you are super worried about your warranty? Honesty is best policy. Call your local dealership and ask how they handle it. You will get very different answers from dealership to dealership.

All I can say is my dealership knows I run a tune, even told me where to buy a tuner and has said to bring it in stock tuned and they could care less. I am in line for a new IC/CAC and asked if I bought an aftermarket IC/CAC, would it void my warranty. Response was no and they would even put it in but "why not wait to see if Ford can fix the shutter before dropping a grand".
Maybe I have a good dealership. I have read some horror stories about other dealerships.

Mizuri-Eco, twotoilets, and zquinn. Would you all like to elaborate what happened with your warranty issue and how the tune voided it? If not I am going to chalk your yes's as BS and ya'll being trolls.
