I still don't understand how the computer can send power to the left rear tire when right one spins if it's an open diff. I just want to get the tru trac and get it out in I would feel better about having the mechanical LSD. There have been a few times in my property up hill around a corner when my right rear tire has spun and my left rear didn't kick in. Had to use 4 hi. Would feel better about having that piece of mind. And knowing what I know now I would definitely rather have the eaton than the Yukon.
The computer activates the brakes on the spinning tire and that in turns sends power to the tire with traction. It's the same way to trick and LSD into working a little faster for you.

Actually - the factory TC works well with a LS differential.

I still haven't put the TruTrac in the front differential, but it's on my list.

I had a Trutrac in my 07 in the rear and I put an Eaton E-locker in the front diff.

IMO this is the way to go if you're going to crack the diff. Fully locked when you need and fully unlocked on the street.

Never had a problem with it in over 2 years and 70,000 HARD km!

Hey man, didn't mean to jump on you so hard. You made a mistake, and admit it. That's good. I was expecting different. So many times people say mis-information than continue to spread it because... Well I don't know why really. But you admitted your mistake, and moved on with new information, so that's cool.

As far as Randys Ring and Pinion goes, maybe they had a new guy answering phones, or maybe they just mis-understood the question.

I still haven't coughed up the money for a true-trac. In the last year I bought a house, bought the girl an engagement ring, and then her car needed to be replaced. So I took some major monetary hits last year. Still recovering, and I'll still do it soon.

As far the the $100 install, jump on it. ANd go with the True-Trac. Unless you are rock crawling exclusively, it's the best limited slip for our trucks.

I definitely plan on going with the tru trac. It's a no brainer knowing all the info.

I had to drive back from Denver to Billings lst night - I passed everything on the road until Sheridan, Wyo where the ice started, and there were three different spots where the ***-end of the truck started to kick out, because both tires were pushing, and the Traction Control flashed and helped me straighten it out.

On ice it's a trade-off - more push, but more likely to get loose.

Fords traction control is well done - goes with a LS like pretzels & beer.

Have a 2012, 5.0,4x4, s-crew with towing package. This was my first truck with a standard open differential. Hated it.
I added the Eaton TrueTrac recently and the difference is amazing. Others have noted no problem with factory TC and I agree.
I can only agree with the many positive comments here, this is an excellent product. Forget the factory elocker, it's junk, if you want REAL traction this is the way to go.

Does anybody know if a 2009 FX4 is able to have the software upgraded so the traction control behaves like the 2012 plus models? The traction control in my 2009 is very aggressive and I dislike how it holds the truck back so much. Thanks.

It would be cool but I haven't read anywhere that it's been done.

I have had good luck with turning it off even though some things come back on after 35.
