True Trac Review

Well guys - after a day with the Eaton True Trac, I can give you some insight on the upgrade;

(1) It's not a cheap mod - the carrier was $514 including shipping, and with labor, and new carrier bearings, lube, etc, the install was $400.

(2) When you're driving it on the street, you don't even know it's there. Perfectly quiet, perfect manners.

(3) If you stop, and stand on it, both back tires dig in - two black marks, no interference from the traction control.

(4) The part number is TT 913A477 for the carrier, and standard OEM carrier bearings fitted, and the shims from the factory were correct, even with the new carrier.

(5) So I went to a nice, steep gravel hill, and drove up it, good traction. Did it a second time, stopped, and gave it too much gas, and both sides pushed, like a locker.

As soon as there are ice spots again, I'll have to set up a test, with one tire on ice, and one on dry, but as of today I'm satisfied - not a bad way to spend $900.

Mine will be installed either Friday or Saturday.

You'll like it.

One thing interesting - FOMOCO must have used two different differentials in these trucks, because even with the VIN Number they sent out the wrong carrier bearings the first time.

I'm gonna be doing that once when I get a set of 3.73s as well. That way I'm only paying labor once LOL

~ follow up ~

I forgot to mention that the True Trac is very 'tight' when it first goes in.

I've now got 175 miles on it, with 120 highway miles on it, and it's just now feeling the same as the old carrier -

Also - I was climbing a little gravel, with some washboards, and I got the traction control to flash a few times, and I'll have to experiment if it makes any other difference with the traction control on or off.

I would think that the traction contol would go with the True Trac like pretzels & beer - but what do I know - I just got it -

Did your truck have the factory E-locker? I was just wondering because they said to use the stock carrier bearings. Mine has the E-locker so I bought the carrier bearings for the locking diff.. I hope they work.

Why would you want to replace the factory E-locker? I had the tru trac on my F250 front and rear and they were great, however I like the E-Locker. Now if my f150 would hold up to one on the front I would do it. But I believe if would rip everything up front apart.

My truck didn't have an E-Locker - just an open carrier.

There is a little confusion, and right now I wish I would have taken the numbers off the boxes so I could relay the info -
