Why would you believe that is would rip everything apart? The front end of your truck is the same as a raptor ( Ford 8.8 with 31 splines) that has a torsen in it.

E-locker is fine on the 8.8.

I ran mine for 2 years with 35s and 37s.

125,000Km total on the truck and 70,000km of that with a front locker which I would use in winter and I beat the living **** out of that truck offroad.

Only problem when I sold it was drivers side CV axle started to have a slight click in 4x4 only when doing a tight turn. Pretty good IMO. an axle is only a $150 and an hour to change out.

Ok guys so I installed the detroit truetrac and have been running it around for a few days. Absolutely love it!! It was pretty simple to install slightly different way of locking the axles out than a traditional carrier but simple and effective and there was clear instructions on how to do so using the spacers and lock ring. I used 85w 90 plain jane rear oil like they recommended. Bought the motive rear bearing kit that came with timken bearings, that was 200 bucks. so I had 750 in it total with gears, bearings, and oil. Used the grey permatex..

At first I noticed the rear making a few noises when making tight turns but after about 100 miles the noise is no longer there, Most likely due to the innner gears..

pulling my boat out of the water on the slippery ramp was a breeze didn't have to put 4x4 in to play. overall very glad I did this and, I will probobly save that money in tires due to not burning the one off all the time down the road. So far I'm happy with this rear seems very solid.

Nothing like resurrecting an old thread, but my truck has 102,000 miles on it and I just changed the fluid - 3 qts of 80W90 regular non-synthetic differential oil.

The old fluid stinks, and is dirty, and was ready to be changed.

Long term update on the True Trac? Still works perfect, no problems, and it's still the best mod I ever did to a vehicle.

I haven't put one in the front, because I rarely put it in 4WD, even on snow because it has good traction all the time. It still might happen though - just because.

We just bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler X - the wife wanted to downsize a little, and within the first 8 weeks I had a True Trac put in it also. It was more expensive than the 9 3/4 Ford, and had to have machine work done to the carrier, mainly having the 7/16" holes in it bored out to 1/2", but it's a good mod on that Jeep too.

Thanks for the update! Great to know it works well as a long term solution.

Excellent, this is one mod I have been contemplating for a year, and now that I NEED to upgrade my R&P to 3.55 from 3.15, now is the perfect time to do so.

Just read the whole thread. I searched for 8.8 differential hoping to find some stuff out about the rear 8.8 not the front. Sad Face.
