For the small price premium of a supercrew over a supercab, I don't know why anyone gets a supercab (unless of course they need a 6.5' bed and the 157" lwb is too long for them)

That is the exact reason that I bought a SuperCab. I wanted the 6.5 foot bed (and have revalidated that time after time hauling things), and my garage cannot fit the longer wheelbase that a 6.5 foot bed and the SuperCrew would result in.

That said, I don't NEED the SuperCrew. On a trip several years ago they extra foot of space would have come in handy. Otherwise, there is really no reason to spend the extra $2,000, and I wouldn't want another foot for parking / turning.

Bigger rebates on Supercab when I bought.

Better resale on the supercrew.

Same for me. I haul motorcycles pretty often and can close the tailgate on my 6.5' bed with most of the bikes. If I hauled with a 5.5' I feel like it would put too much weight on the tailgate for my liking.

Different stokes for different folks.

I couldn't afford a supercrew with the 6.5' box. That's my dream truck though. One day

I put 30k miles on my 5.0 Lariat without a hiccup, but you will miss the torque of the Turbo. Check to see what gears that platinum has, some of them had 3.31 pavement queen gears and will not tow anything. Also keep in mind the platinums are the heaviest models with those bells and whistles so if you don't have the 7700gvwr option, your payload capacity will be pathetic.
True he will lose some TQ going from the EB to the 5.0,but anyone who has driven a 5.0 knows it has plenty of nuts/TQ.
Also,it probably has the 3:55 like my 2014 5.0 Platinum 4x4 (5.5 ft bed).Most Platinums I see with 3:31 has the EB,just from what i noticed.
As for the GVWR,it's probably 7350 (like my 5.0 Platinum 3:55 4x4 5.5ft bed).My previous 2011 5.0 XTR super crew (basically a XLT with chrome package) was basically the same set up as my 2014 Platinum (super crew 5.0,3:55,4x4,5.5ft box) GVWR was 7700 on the 2011 XTR,because as you mentioned, the Platinum is a heavier truck, hence the lower GVWR.
King Ranch,Platinums,Limiteds are heavy luxury trucks.

I agree. Same goes for a lot of mods I see, vs higher packages.

I need a crew, scab wasn't even a consideration. Family:
6'4"
6'3"
6'3"
5'11"
5'8"

And the last three are still growing. Could very easily all start with a 6 before any move out.

I deal with the 157", of course mine does fit in my garage. In front of a cabinet.

Well, the platinum sold, but I'm not giving up. Just gives me more time to make the right decision. I know for sure I want a supercrew. And I'd love the platinum. But like you said I don't want a pathetic payload cap, I load that box up daily.

As for missing the 3.5TT.....I'm so torn. I love how powerful this engine is, will the 5.0 be a significant downgrade? Nah, I don't think I'll notice it...I was just thinking in terms of longevity maybe the 5.0 has fewer cons. But that's a different debate...

Try to find one with 3.73 gears. 3.55 is weak, can't believe Ford even sold the 5.0 with anything less than a 3.73. A 4.10 would make the best use of its power and get those RPM's up fast into the range it makes its power. I have the 7700 GVWR on my platinum with Max tow package. My payload is 1360 pounds. My Lariat with its 7300 gvwr had a 1450 payload, so yah, the platinums are freaking heavy!
