Default Thoughts on coilover installation and cost

I've called around to several Ford dealerships in the area for quotes to install my Boss Coilovers, but not sure if I am getting a fair price. I have been quoted $300-$450 for installation plus an additional fee for alignment. This sounds high to me. I thought about trying to install myself but do not have all the required tools. I have read all of the 4x4 IWE horror stories, so I don't want to let just anyone install them. I'm in the Atlanta area so if you guys have any recommendations, send them my way.

Hey Matt

That's about what I was quoted, and thus paid. Truck's so new that I felt at ease paying a bit more now in the event that something unforeseen popped up down the road. Plus it's now on record that the coilovers were installed by the dealer. I was out the door for roughly $475 with an alignment.

EDIT: Just went at looked at my invoice from last month:
3 hours shop time from start to finish and alignment ($100). $460 plus the applicable taxes.

$300 isn't bad IMO. $450 seems about $150 too much. Did they tell you what book time was? I would guess book time is probably 2 hours (1 hr per side) so at $130-150/hr, that sounds in line.

Just shop around for an alignment because dealerships make a lot of money on alignments and ita something simple that you dont need a ford tech for. Dealers are usually atound $120 for an alignment and you can usually get a front end alignment for $69 or so from most tire shops. It won't hurt anything or adversely wear your tires to drive a few miles to your alignment.

No, there was no mention of book time. I may go with the $300 quote. They quoted $379 total with alignment so from hearing what you guys are saying, that doesn't sound terrible. So $130-$150 an hour is about ballpark for dealership labor rate?

Ok then, guess it's OK. Now just need to schedule to drop it off. Hope to recoup some of the cost by selling autospring level and factory spring assembly's.

That's pretty good considering they have to take apart the assembly's to install new shock. With the boss's all they have to do is remove old assembly, and pop the new one in.

Yep! It's a higher volume dealer. They've been on for two years now and not a glitch! I'm going to go with some Boss soon though.
