Is there a real difference in the newer models?
Looking on Fords website at the 2010 F150s. Comparing a Supercrew XLT 4x4 with a 4.6L 3V V8 with 3.73 gears and one with the 5.4L V8 and 3.73 gears. The setup with the bigger V8 has a max towing capacity of 9600lbs and the smaller 4.6L V8 has a towing capacity of 9300lbs. There is also only 18hp difference in the two motors and only 45ft-lbs of torque between the two. Has anyone ever compared the two on pulling strength and overall acceleration? Is there really any difference? It seems as though they have closed the big gap inbetween the two V8's. My 2006 4.6L V8 only has 231hp and the 5.4 V8 of 2006 were rated at 300hp. I think the torque difference was big also compared to now. So has anyone tested or tried both?
I had a 1996 F-150 with the small V-8 which I bought new. I used it to tow our pop-up trailer. The truck had some brake issues and I took it to the dealer. We were going on a camping trip, and the salesman (my friend I have known since the third grade) loaned us a used 1997 F-150 with the bigger V-8 to use for the weekend. I could tell there was a tremendous difference. I immediately ordered a new truck upon return from our trip and traded in the old one. But in regards to your specific question, I have no clue about the 2010 models.
