The reason to return to stock tune is because if you don't and they reflash your truck your tuner will not work with your truck anymore. Once tuned the tuner and truck are married. They reflash your truck and the tuner does not recognize the truck anymore. If you return it stock before hand then it is like the first time you ever used the tuner when it comes back from the dealer. And seriously, what is harder on a truck? A tuner? or a contractor betting the crap out of a truck every day? Plowing snow? They still cover the contractor or the plow guy.

Or maybe I am misunderstanding what you mean by "edge tuned".

Let me clarify, Edge (as in the company), I was running the Edge Evolution programmer with 'stock/canned' tunes from edge. Let me clarify further by saying I was unimpressed with the lvl 3 'canned' (as in not a custom tune, it was the same tune for anyone who bought an Evolution progarmmer) performance tune; I ran lvl 2 'canned' tow tune exclusively for the improved trans response. lvl 2 on a 'stock/canned' edge makes little to no alteration to engine performance parameters, its mostly-if not all in the trans with this tune.

Now, had I been on lvl 3 for an extended period of time (not the 2 days, 2 years prior right after I purchased the unit), I may have believed them it could have caused it. But again, the edge programmer takes minimal consideration for many parameters, and I found any tuning they actually did was very conservative. For instance it will NOT adjust for a CAI like many think, only custom tuning can do that.

Had this happened after I got custom tuned, I would not have even second guessed what they said. There is a major night and day difference between 'canned' tunes from a programmer manufacturer, and the custom tunes you can get from someone like 5-star, PHP, Livernois, etc..

I think you need to reread what nathan nathaniel previously posted. He did not say it was unethical to tune/modify your vehicle. Let's face it we all know installing an aftermarket tuner on your vehicle itself is not unethical.

However, should you damage your vehicle after modifying it beyond factory specifications, how could anyone expect Ford or any other auto manufacturer to pick up the tab for repairs?

Somewhat correct but easily corrected...

My SCT X3 was ordered from 5Star with the pcu code on the firewall. Though when I uploaded my custom tune the download could not be complete bc I had brought the truck in to the dealership in January bc the transmission shifted oddly. Ford flashed my pcu with an updated program, which ment my pcu had now a different code from the fire wall...simple fix was to plug tuner into dbo2 and go to info. I then forwarded the new program code to 5star and within 20minutes mike emailed me 3 re-corrected tunes.

Main point - if you have a tuner and need to bring it in return to stock. Before you upload a tune after check the info screen to confirm code is still the same. If ford flashed for new updates, contact you tune shop and forward the new pcu code. They should have that program or will in time to modify your tunes back.

Completely agree ^...

Also like another poster said, "pay to play". You break it bc of mods, be honest and face the true - you broke it you buy the fix.
