Default Tailgate Step

Howdy,

Did any of you get the tailgate step option on your new F150's? If so, I'm curious how much you have used it and how it's worked for you. Besides the tailgate step I'd be especially curious if you have a truck cap mounted on your truck also and if it seals ok to keep dust out from gravel roads.

I've tried that tailgate step and I think it is a very innovate feature for Ford. It sure makes it easier to get access to that box since they seem higher these days and especially as we get older. I checked out the 2014 Chevy/GMC with their step in their bumper but it is not even close to lower step height of the Fords.

I'm just a little concerned about gravel dust entering into the truck cap area if you have the tailgate step option.

I use my step LOTS. I am a healthy guy in not bad shape - but I just find it super convenient & fast to pop out.

Love it. One of the things I told the sales guy 'this has to be on my truck'.

I use mine on a regular basis. I don't use the handle as much as the step. I usually just pull the step out. It makes loading a CRF450R without a ramp, much easier. I like mine a lot.... The only thing I did to mine was place a pad beneath the yellow handle to prevent rattling.

Hey Coho,

Good to hear! Like I mentioned before I just think it is an incredible option and am surprised the dealers I've seen are not stocking more trucks equipped with this option. Ironically the trucks I see stocked with them are the really high end equiped trucks. I'm in pretty good health too but after a 30 -50 mile training ride on my road bike early in the morning my legs, knees and the rest of my body would sure appreciate that tailgate step if I'm using that truck for work that day. lol

I know a farmer who uses the hand rail part to keep his hay bales from falling out.

I use mine a lot especially since i got the 3 inch block in the back. It also makes a pretty comfy seat. Just the perfect height to touch the ground with your feet and lean back agaist the tailgate.

Tailgate step is fantastic for clambering in and out which i used to do multiple times a day. I had the bedrug installed so it was a little easier on the knees and also have a leer cap. Have no issues with dirt, dust or water getting in, when i purchased the cap they asked me if i had the step so I assume the lids are designed differently.
Treated myself to a bedslide recently and love it, only have to use the step occasionally now if something falls off the back of the slide.
