I personally like the look of SYNC2 over SYNC3 but really want CarPlay. Literally seconds before pulling the trigger on the SYNC3 upgrade someone posted this. Figured I'd give it a try.

I'm curious if anyone has ever tried it?

That seems like a neat piece of kit, looking forward to your after action report. I’d love to add CarPlay without losing any of the factory controls or needing forscan to reprogram half the truck.

 

Feel the exact same and had never heard about this. I like the Home Screen having 4 things on it and the rest of the functions, but want CarPlay. Did you end up ordering this?

 

i have small screen sync and want to upgrade but as it's not my daily seems expensive to go to sync 2

 

I'm interested to see if that works. With Forscan, you can choose from quite a few different looks for SYNC3. My wife actually preferred the blue SYNC3 theme common to Fords over the brown/tan that our Lincoln came with, so I changed it.

 

The home screen into 4 section is what i like as well. I have a custom background on it as well which SYNC 3 doesnt allow. Yes i did order it. Being as its coming from China im not sure when ill be getting it but once i do ill be sure to post the results.

It was just delivered! From China to my door in 7 days, can't beat that!

I won't have time until Tuesday to do the install.

Here is a video that the instructions include. Apparently there is an additional circuit board that needs to be installed.

Wow that's pretty involved. Looks simple enough, but I'm surprised the Chinese even put the time and effort into developing a retro fit like this. I wouldn't have thought there was the demand. I guess there are more people like us out there that want to keep the old sync2 but have apple play? Surprising, but hopefully this is exactly what we're looking for

 

Trolled these forums, but I registered just to subscribe and follow. Looks like its the perfect and most economical solution for Sync2 folks to get Carplay and not spend a ton or chance something not working. Ultimately by that video it appears mostly that its adding its own hardware and bridging to the existing screen.

 

Y'all realize that Carplay/AA takes over the screen and you don't see Sync anymore, right?
