Default Sync update - frozen on "installing file"

I'm trying to update my sync from version GEN1-V3.1 to version SYNC 4.4 on my 2010 Lariat. I followed the instructions on the website: empty USB drive, formatted FAT-32, unzipped files, etc. Ended up with two files (install.lst and autoinstall.lst) as well as a SyncMyRide folder with 9 files on the USB.

Started the update process and got the message "installing file". I never got the initial "installation complete" message that the instructions say to ignore. After about 45 minutes I figured something was not right, so I shut off the truck and waited a few minutes. I did a factory reset and tried starting the update process again. I got a "installation already in progress" message, followed by "installing file". This time I waited an hour with no obvious progress before I gave up.

Any suggestions?

clm65,

I don't recommend disconnecting the battery without first consulting with your dealer. Which system do you have? Check out this link and let me know: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...c-version.html

I'd like to help with this.

Exclamation

SYNC updates apply in multiple phases. The system reboots several times.

Mine was stuck on APPLYING UPDATE 2 of 6 for almost 30 minutes, I figured it was corrupt or something or the system locked up (after all it IS Microsoft).....

It eventually completed after driving around for 40 minutes (didn't want to idle that long)

Shaay,

I have the SYNC with voice activated navigation. I appreciate any help you can provide.

Any other info on the updates getting hung up? Mine goes through the first phase and says installation complete (the one you are supposed to ignore) and stayed stuck there for over 45 min without a reboot so I finally turned it off.
