As a frustrated 2011 xlt owner with no premium sound system add on, I did alot of messing around with the settings on the factory stereo. To say the least the stock system is horrid compared to other factory systems. Until I made a discovery. As a major geek looking for a gps unit, I thought to myself, how about I but a lower end android tablet with built in gps and so I can run my audio through it? Long story short I bought a HTC Flyer (perfect tablet for gps and priced under 200$). I plugged the tablet in through the aux and installed an app called dsp manager with built in compression and equalizer. All I have to say is WOW! The factory speakers in my 2011 f150 sound like a whole different animal, bass is loud highs are high you name it. Which leads me to believe my previous conclusion on the factory speakers was wrong. The speakers arent **** its the factory head unit that doesnt allow much for an equalizer that causes a sub par experience.

Hmmmm, I wonder if this would work with the Sony system as well?

IMHO you are better off.

The 700 watt system is really kind of lousy if you ask me. Not sonys best work.

How is the clarity, imaging, power compression when loud, etc?

Ok I'll try and answer some of your questions the best i can. My htc flyer came with honeycomb (which was garbage). So I downgraded back to gingerbread (stable), I accomplished s off and flashed a custom rom (one xxl 4.0). With this rom the compression is mainly handled by the Beats audio (built in to HTC sense), on top of that I installed DSP manager. Now DSP manager is mainly used as the equalizer on top of the Beats audiio with increased compression and and bass boost. Now to explain the sound it is very clear, does not distort bass at max volume (and I meen MAX volume!), the bass compression is very strong! Nice and deep. The highs are bright but not tingy like you would really expect from the stock bs. And to my surprise there is mids! Too actually test something close to the sound quality youd experience, buy and I do meen buy "mercy" by Kanye west from the itunes store and play it through your iphone/ipod/ipad through the auxillary input, sounds like a different world. When I say this certain song it seems that Apple used a quite extensive amount of compression with this track. You would think that someone secretely installed new speakers overnight. As for the installation of the tablet, I did not want to mess up the stock setup I have so..... Man this is alot of typing. Ok so, I bought a black plastic case from amazon, some industrial strength velcro, extra strength crazy glue and a tie strap from the dollar store. Removed the black rubber insert from underneath the stock clock, attached 3 peices of velcro to the plastic. Now the crazy glue was used to adhere the dollar store straps to the back side of the case ( three strips left right and middle). Then to the other side of the straps i attached and crazy glued the velcro to stick to the dash. Perfect fit all buttons that arent used are covered and not damaged along with the maintained integrity of my stock dash. Now the rubber insert just places right on top. I use my iphone to tether to my tablet so I have pandora on demand with spotify. Just jump in turn on personal hotspot done. Not to mention I have 48gb left to add movies tv shows and oh did I mention netflix?

. Here's just a small video to give you an idea. And yes! You do not need an internet connection for the gps to work as the Flyer has a built in gps receiver and no google navigation does not work without an internet connection because.....? I dunno ask Google, kinda dumb in my opinion. As a Canadian who loves Pandora I had to go through the trouble of setting up a dns, otherwise you get "pandora is not available in your country". And no the tablet is not adhered to the back and no it does not fly or swing around when driving, very sturdy. If you have any other helpful ideas that would be cool.

We be talkin different languages and have different ideas on power compression, etc. Thats for sure!
In the dark it looks like you have a touch screen head unit. The screen looks sweet.
I'm glad you're happy with your upgrades.
I am happy with mine too.

A little OT.
I am curious what you use for dns. I want to try pandora and last.fm.

PLEASE no more Nicki Minaj.

Lol pandora thinks I love her Its just what came on randomly. I'm using unotelly, works great but i did use unblock-us for a while. By all meens this is not ideal comparing to a more advanced install of an amp, subwoofer and speaker upgrade. But with that in mind it really brings ALOT of better sounding music out of the factory unit. Wait till I start getting involved with upgrading the speakers sometime later this year

I'm not an audio expert by any means but I've hooked up several systems in various vehicles that I've owned.

For my 2011 w/o premium sound. I changed the stock speakers for a middle of the road Pioneer 3 channel speaker and the difference was HUGE, even still using the stock unit. Now I need a little Bass.
