2011-2014 use a high mount inter-cooler square footage front on is larger than the low mounted 2015 and up center bumper mounted, but the lower mount gets cooler low air and does not block any flow to the radiator. No experience with the early mount but is may be the source of condensation complaints and the legendary weep hole. Aftermarket units may have more square frontal surface but much thicker in depth allowing air flow in contact with the fins longer time to cool the intake charge. Most are an easy installation, my Titan only required loosing the plastic bracket funneling air into my IC, the shutters can remain. I did remove my shutters entirely with no ill effects even in WI winters.

I also use a TS SuperSonic BOV vacuum operated vs electronic for it's strength and adjustment fine tuning for idle and softer opening. KM

I bought the truck at about 55k miles and within a few thousand miles I replaced the exhaust w/ a Magnaflow system, it has an aFe intake, and I have an SCT X4 programmer w/ their tune for 91 octane, no towing.

I am a value-driven person, and what is the best value for adding an intercooler? I would prefer something I could install myself. I don't mind being patient. If the answer is "wait until so-and-so has their black Friday sale and by X", I can do that. Additionally, I am not looking to turn my truck into any kind of street racer. It is too big and heavy. But I wouldn't mind adding a bit more power as long as it doesn't hurt the longevity of the engine, and it sounds like an intercooler is the way to go.

While I am in there, do I need to change the down/charge pipes? Is it worth it?

I suspect I am asking a question that has been asked before. Is there a "How to choose an intercooler" thread? Or "What upgrades should I do to my truck, and why" thread someone could point me at?

I would appreciate thoughts and insight on this.
It is always a good idea to get a intercooler made of metal, as opposed to plastic mix ford puts out there.
there is Full Race,Mishimoto,Afe,. I chose CP-E it states that it has a 10-15 degree ^+. Delta T.

The others mentioned aren’t advertising their ^+.

A strong value pick for the 3.5L EB, offering good quality and a DIY-friendly install. They also tend to run Black Friday sales, so waiting can be worth it. Doing the charge pipes at the same time is smart since the factory ones are a known weak point and it’s easier while everything is already apart. With an SCT tune, aFe intake, and Magnaflow setup already installed, the intercooler helps those mods perform more effectively, especially in hot weather.

@zunepuh were you suggesting a particular manufacturer? I have also been kicking around doing the exhaust headers, but not sure I want to spend the money right now.

This is IAT2 and MPH with a stock IC.

This is with a CVF Titan 1.

Both on the same BCB 93 octane tune in my 2017 2.7. Both at 85 degrees ambient temp.

The big benefit is the time to heat soak either. When the IAT2 temps exceed 115 degrees the ECU starts to pull spark timing limiting knock. This is what cuts performance. Temps under 110 IAT2 the difference is much less. Also if you look at the graphs idle and low throttle opening the temps are high in both cases, whend the demand is up throttle opened temps drop dramatically the Titan drops quicker and farther and takes much longer to heat soak. The temp max and min shown in the gauge display shows the drop with the Titan. KM
