Default Replacing Speakers Help

I've have a 2014 Lariat. Pretty sure I do not have the Sony system or at least I've not seen anything leading me to think I have the Sony system. My front passenger-side door speaker appears to be blown. It sounds terrible if anything with even a little bass comes on. I would like to replace the door speakers myself and hoping it's a pretty standard install. Any recommendations on the speakers? I'm not really sure what size the door speakers are. Do I need to get component? I would prefer not to mess with the tweeters in the dash.

Good advice, they are probably 5 x 7's and anything is better than the paper-coned POS's that are in there now.

There are lots of threads on here about separate component speaker upgrades if significantly better sound is your goal.

Unless you want to do some splicing and soldering the only other thing you will need is adapters to go from the existing wiring in the doors to the new speakers.

The cheap adapters from China work just as good as the Metras. IMO.

Just did this. 2014 FX4. REALLY easy. Speakers are 6x8 both front/back.

Here's what I bought, and fits perfect. Couple videos on how to remove door panels too. Again, it's really easy and won't take much more than 45 minutes for all four. Make sure to get the adapters needed to make it plug and play. I would recommend that you zip tie the wires during the install as the adapters add slack and can rattle if you don't.

It's a 5x7/6x8 - hasn't changed in the past like 30 years . Very easy to change and if you don't feel like splicing wires Merta makes a pigtail:

I just changed all 4 of mine over in about 2 hours, I went with Polk Audio DB 572 since I have had good luck with Polk before. Got them from Crutchfield and they came with the Adapter wires.

Crutchfield has never let me down. I replaced head units and speakers in my last 4 vehicles from there. Nothing fancy, just better than stock. The speakers I got for my '17 were like 80 bucks and improved the sound quality immensely. I went with Infinity Primus 9613's, but sizing might be different between '14 and '17

I replaced the factory $8 Chinese speakers in my '14 Lariat with some JBL speakers (just the doors, but left the pillar tweeters alone), and it made a huge difference. Then added a Kicker Hideaway sub behind the left side rear seat back, this added enough bass to round out the effect I was looking for. All from the good folks at Crutchfield.

One note of caution; I used a set of the door speaker adapters, to speed the installation process. They worked.....for a while. I started experiencing intermittent connections and traced it back to some shoddy adapters. First, one speaker, then another, and so on. My solution was to open all the door panels again and make soldered connections with each speaker wire. Didn't really want to do this, but I haven't had any issues since then. I recall others on the forum having had the same problems with the adapters, seems kinda hit or miss.

Thanks everyone for all the information. I feel a lot more confident now. One follow up question, if I purchase a 2-way speaker as some have suggested, does that create any issues? I guess some have suggested that it does not. Just wondering. Thanks again for all the info and attached video walk-thru.
