what about unplugging and plugging it back in?
Haven't tried messing with it yet, I figured I would go ahead and order the parts (I'll need the emblem anyway) and then try everything. I'll return the camera if its not needed, but I'll have it on hand if that is the issue.

From Tasca, the total was about 280 shipped, so a lot cheaper. Even if I have to take it in to get reprogrammed (120 bucks he said) I'm still way better off.

I don't know what would need to be reprogrammed, but if it does I am pretty sure forscan can do it and that would cost you $30 for the adapter. I will check later tonight to make sure, but it can pretty much do everything and then some that IDS can do.

Awesome! I have zero experience with that program, but wouldn't mind spending 30 bucks to avoid taking it to the dealer. I also thought it was strange to have to reprogram something for the camera, so I definitely took that bit of info with a grain of salt.

I really don't see why this has to be such an expensive part. It's just Meh.. It's an average camera. It's not 4k, 8K, motion detecting or anything.

It doesn't have to be. It's expensive so Ford can make a huge profit. They know 99% of the people cannot live without it once they've had it, so nearly any price is game. Eventually Dorman will come out with one that cost 1/3 what Ford wants.

Isn't the whole imaging system in the camera? So it is sending straight video over the wire to the APIM?

Not that I'm justifying the price, but that would mean any camera sending similar video could be plugged into the system.

The OEM camera sends a digital signal. The aftermarket ones typically use RCA output- that's analog. The APIM wouldn't know what to do with that.

If it was that easy, nobody would be paying $350 for a Ford camera.

maybe try a master reset of your sync system and see if that helps before you shed out some money for the camera. just another option.

Interesting development in this issue. I got under the truck the other day and tried to secure any connections I could see that lead to the tailgate. Didn't seem to make a difference, still no signal. Then this morning, I put it in R and the camera worked. It didn't work the other times I used R after dropping my kid off at daycare or when I went to get lunch. Is there another connection somewhere I can check? (other than the camera itself, I'll check that one with the replacement emblem gets here) Is it connected somewhere behind the dash that I can get to easily, like under the tray thing?
