I had the dealer install a Ford OEM remote start in my new 2017 F150 when I bought it and it came with two remote one button fobs with the Ford logo. No special keys. It works fine.

Were discussing an older model system.

Yes, you are, but there may be similarities. Maybe not. I just thought I would toss in my experience.

Got mine cut at the local dealer. Actually had one key cut first, found out it didn't work, but they cut that one for free. Ordered a second key and got it cut by the leader, they charged me like $7 I think and that one worked.

Hey Gang;
Almost there...so close. Finally got the keys cut. ACE did it...thanks for the heads up. Now for the difficult part. As I'm an old fart and no good with tech (for me gets frustrating real quick) could someone, ANYONE, please direct me to some sort of tutorial for getting the remote start enabled. Between this forum and youtube I found the code to enter but now, it's just a matter of learning HOW to get into the forscan program and access that section Thanks...I look forward to posting my results with all of you.

Did you get the usb adapter to go between your laptop and the truck? If not here's a link to what I and many others use.
Amazon Amazon

Using the program is fairly intuitive with a mild tech learning curve, glean all info from the Forscan thread in the 09-14 section sticky as well as the website where you got the program, www.forscan.org They have a forum over there you need to join in order to be able to make any programming changes via extended license (free) and lots of experienced folx that can answer every question about the program and a FAQ section.

Default Remote Start (2013 STX)

Maybe this will help some people with a particular issue with remote start...
I recently purchased a 2013 STX and accidentally started it from outside the truck while trying to lock it.
Surprised the crap outta me! I thought I had no remote start as I only had 3 buttons on the key.
I tried a couple of combos but couldn't figure it out until another person on a related thread said he'd pushed the lock button 3 times.
Bingo!

That truck has an aftermarket or dealer addon remote start, factory r/s does not work using just the lock button.
