It happens! Just use the key for a time or two and should get back to working.

Also changing your battery will help with the range.

Plus every so often, reprogram the remotes to work with your truck. After doing this, remote went back to working just like new!

I had the same issue with my 2013 Explorer. It turned out to be the closed hood sensor. I banged on the sensor several times then closed the hood. tried the remote start again and it worked.

Default remote start

Had the same problem with my 2013, turned out to be the hood switch was not making contact when closed. i just bent the bracket up slightly and the remote stat works fine now.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but once again F150Forum saves the day...

2016 F-150 Platinum

My remote start failed (horn toot, red light flashing on key fob and truck lights blinking) after removing my grille.

Got it working again by turning the ‘remote start’ off and then back on again through the on board computer (the one that is controlled by the steering wheel button...

Holy Crap!!! Who would have thought a damn hood switch could cause this. Funny thing is, there was nothing that indicated the hood was open. It was obvious when i looked at the switch. It had gotten bent down. This thread fixed me up. Saves me a trip to the dealership and some money. Thanks

Pcarlton76...this is the exact same issue I have right now...not sure what caused it. Were you able to find a solution that didn't cost you a mortgage payment?

Default Honk when using Remote start

I just had the same thing happen. I recently replaced my spark plugs due to a misfire on Cylinder 2. I spoke with Ford and they said if my check engine light was on that the remote start would not work; it's a safety feature according to Ford. Once my engine light was reset my remote start work starting working. Hopefully this will help; good luck.
