Default Recirculate shuts off when using heat

Good Morning, all. I have had my 2011 S Crew since new and something that has always bugged the crap out of me is the recirculate shuts off after about 5-10 minutes when using the heat. Is this just one of those things on that year or is there a fix for it. It would not be such an issue, but I hate to smell exhaust fumes from other vehicles coming into the truck when it shuts off. Especially when I get behind a diesel.

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Exactly what settings are you using?

Not sure why, but recirc will turn off after a couple minutes when you use defrost whether the temp is on hot or cold. But IIRC, you should be able to run temp on heat and recirc on if you don't use the defrost.

Using recirculate in cold weather will cause window fogging. Recirculate is mainly for cooling and keeping foul odors out.

i noticed this too. I don't like that. I really don't like any type of automated control of the HVAC. I had mine on recirc because of the massive amount of burning leaves and it was getting on my allergies.

It happens even when I have it just on the floor setting and or vent, not just when defrost is on.

Reach over and touch the recirc button, it'll come back on.

The last couple of mornings it's been in the 20s here in north Dallas area, yep that cold. I've liked using recirculate because it warms the inside quicker, but like everyone has stated, it shuts itself off after a few minutes.

Same issue I have with my 2013 - from what I read the timeout is how it was designed.

My 2006 you could turn it on and it would stay on.

Heavy wildfire smoke here in Ca. Been running recirc with AC on and heat. No problem.
