Default Radio Nav upgrade

I just picked up a 2012 STX and love it. I upgraded the Instrument cluster to the one that has the built in LCD screen and now am looking at the radio NAV system. I currently have the Basic SYNC with no NAV. I would like input from the community on either OEM NAV/Radio or Aftermarket such as Kenwood DNX692 w/ID Maestro for the control interface to SYNC. Pros and Cons. And why does one company that sells the kit say they need to progam the VIN into the OEM Radio/NAV system?

I got the Kenwood dnx 892 with maestro. easy to install, and added oem backup camera setup from camerasource.com. no complaints other than sync seems a little laggy with it.

leoaloha I did this myself.

Check out the link. The pictures in the link are actually of my install. Everything works perfect and sounds great! My truck has the Sony sound system so I had to do some wiring modifications but it all worked as it should. Yours will without a doubt be a plug and play with no issues.

Great! Thanks! One question, how to you upgrade the maps?

$1700 ???
If your going to spend that kind of money I would find a better system OEM. I have a 2013 with the nav and I wouldn't recommend it. Do a search in here and you will find numerous issues.

The 2013 has My Ford Touch. Ya there are a lot of problems with that system for sure. But this system is the Gen 1 system like the 2012 and down. They are current on updates and works flawlessly with the F150. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Map updates are available for purchase of course on CD. You simply insert the CD and it runs on its own from there. You may be able to find a map update copy of some sort out there but I always go with the original so there are no issues with the upload. If you purchase a kit from the link above, be sure to ask that they send one with the most latest updates. They are pretty good for that.

Here is the unit on their Ebay site for a few hundred bucks cheaper.
