Ok I went to that link and it all makes sense. and now that I think about it, it has always been a particular pump here on base (cheaper gas on base than off) that does this to me.

Check out the first post in this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/showthread...hlight=capless
The link in the first post shows how the reverse cap works and why the fuel nozzle is important.

I had the same problem a few days ago and found this link.
It is a Ford customer service bulletin that explains the problem

It all comes down to the fact that stations are changing nozzles and the new ones are not large enough to release the release tabs in the fill system I.E the new nozzle's are smaller

No issue here and over 155,000 miles now, and countless fill ups. Guess I just haven't come across one of those type of fuel nozzles here in West Texas.

Had the issue once. The rear driver's side door was open. I put the pump down, shut the door, and it worked fine. Just figured there was some type of safety mechanism there. Never happened again, and I always shut my doors.
Makes more sense that the tabs weren't being pressed correctly, but any chance it is a safety feature?
I see an experiment coming soon!
