Default Problem with new eb

It's 3 weeks old and about 800 miles on it. When giving about 1/3 acceleration it sounds like the waste gates are opening then they close then the truck picks up and goes. It's 15 degrees so I'm not sure if the cold has something to do with it or if this is considered normal. Leaving tomorrow to drive to VT and hope this is not a problem. I hear the pressure coming out from behind the pedals or so it sounds

So it's designed to lose boost pressure

The boost drops to 10-12psi just before it upshifts.

Yes. You don't need much boost at 1/3 throttle. Saves gas. Push the pedal harder if you want less wastegate noise.

Ok thank you. I'm just a bit paranoid.

1. You can not hear wastegates open. They are internal to the turbo housings and exhaust. What you are hearing is the bypass/blow off valve venting air back into the intake. This is what it is supposed to do.

2. There is no way to put exactly a certain amount of throttle on the pedal. In other words, you are ALWAYS slightly increasing or decreasing the throttle even when you are trying to maintain speed. Any decrease in throttle of any kind when there is positive boost pressure present, will result in that slight noise. The higher the pressure, the more noise will be there.

Nothing wrong with being a little paranoid, especially after a purchase like this. However, educating yourself on how a turbo vehicle works and what things to specifically pay attention for and notice on your truck will be greatly beneficial. I've been working on turbo cars for almost 20 years and still learn something new about them every day.

This is normal when the engine isn't warm yet. Let the engine warm up before peddling too hard. When its warm, you are good to go
