Default Paint Bubble & Rust F150 2013. HELP!

Hello everyone,

Hope you having a great day.

I noticed my truck paint forming bubbles and paint breaking off with rust underneath. Located under the 3rd brake lamp.

It's a 2013 model FX4 Black Tuxedo 60k miles on it. I live in Khobar/Saudi Arabia which on the east cost. So when I went to dealership their excuse was there are 100 reasons for this to occur.

Anyhow they said it will be scrubbed, welded, anti rust sprayed, and painted. costing 750$.

Am not convinced on price but I need to do it fast before it spreads.

What are your suggestions.

what is all of the gunk on your light? That's an odd place for a 2013 truck to be rusting already... do you have any water leaks on your roof? sat antenna? Looks like they really need to remove the back window to be able to reach all of the metal. You can sand and "treat" it yourself but the new paint won't match of course.

Not a good situation in my opinion.. somethings wrong with that area in regards to original prep, paint, water and what not.

Edit, are you in Saudi? even more odd that you'd have rust at all if so.

Looks like the result of a faulty gasket. That 'gunk' inside the housing is probably mold. Also check the headliner inside where the wire entry is,you may find water has got in. I believe there are other threads on this issue.

That's horrible looking. I don't even know if a life of salty winters here in Canada could cause rust that bad. To properly fix that they would have to pull the rear window in order to get all the rust.

Looks to me like it was disassembled and had the inside of the cover smoked out with some kind of paint?

You are correct. It was tinted and I did not finish pealing it off.

Indeed that what the dealer said. The rear window and the headliner will be completely removed in order to clear it all out.

What do you mean by faulty gasket ?

It's a light tenting. no water leaks and we don't have SAT radio in Saud, still got FM

Yes the window will be removed and I'm not a good painter even though I'm an engineer still I wouldn't take such risk. The back portion of the roof will be sanded and repainted only. Not the whole roof.

BTW my brother owns a Mustang when he was studying in East Lansing, Michigan and the hood end was having the same bubble problem. When the car was imported to Saudi it got worst.

This "Bubbling" is probably a trend in Ford's paint.

The Mustang problem is with the aluminum hoods. Its a different situation than what you have going on here.

Ford doesn't exactly have the best track record with paint sticking to aluminum, one of the major reasons I have not bought a new one.

I would remove the window, wire wheel that area, get rid of the surface rust and use rust bullit or por-15 to seal it. Then have a body shop paint it.

Sucks it happens. I know I'm not looking forward to doing any on mine down the road.

The mustang thing ford knew about, there was a TSB where they installed an electronic device to reverse the electron flow. My step dad has it on his.
