Default OUTSIDE TEMP display/ sensor question...need your help

I have a 2010 XL that the previous owner highly optioned including all power, sync, heated rear window, etc.

I had heard that if your truck had a heated rear window it should contain the circuity to display the outside temp in the radio display if you buy the under-the-hood sensor. I ran a 'display test' to make sure the display worked, and it does. I installed the temp sensor in the grill area and.... NOTHING! NADA! I can't believe Ford would have separate units for XL and XLT trucks. Gotta be something simple I am missing.

I bought the sensor from Ford, so it should be good. Does anyone know if there is a dipswitch in the heater control head unit I need to set or something?? I have the standard heater, not the dual climate. Otherwise, I'm out $50 for a sensor I can't return.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Take a look at this thread, looks similar to what you are trying to do. Same issue as well and a possible solution.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the help soaringfalcon. Looks like from the linked posting I read I will need heated mirros to make it work. Maybe I should just stick to the time and temp sign at the local bank... But it'd be cool to have the temp display.

When I decided to try that project I recieved the climate control a day or 2 before my heated mirrors showed up. I installed the climate control, the day before I got the mirrors. That was when the outside temp lit up. I don't think it has anything to do with the mirrors, or the mirror button. More finding the correct climate control to replace with. There are trucks in the xlt trim level without heated mirrors, that have the temp display.

Yes, my 2011 XLT had power mirrors, bit not heated nor and lighting on them. I have manual heater controls and outside temp.

Thanks for this new information guys! Sounds like I need to do nothing more than find a XLT with my set up (non heated mirrors/manual temp control/heated rear window) and I should have my temp display up and working.
Cool! You've been helpful!
