Default Anyone try adding an exterior temperature sensor???

Before i say anything, I have a 2010 STX

I wanted to ask this, because there is another forum, where a guy added the sensor, but couldnt get it to work. Now i accidently pushed my climate control "on" button and defrost button at the same time one day. This lit up my dash with options i know i do not have, such as dual zone temp control, and to my amazement... exterior air temperature! So theres power there.

Any opinions on this?

I'm interested in this as well. I found it strange that my $15,000 civic had a temperature display on it but my $40,000 f150 doesn't...lol

I tried it on a 2010 XL and it went to 88 with a fan symbol. Nothing more.

Yes, this tells me there's power to it. And I know that there is no sensor. You have to buy it separately. My 2010 STX seems to have "roughed in" wiring. As I was able to add auto headlights recently. I read on another forum (f150online I think) of a guy who plugged a sensor in, but couldn't get it to work. I was just checking if anyone on here tryed yet.

Cuz I think all you need to do is disconnect the battery, connect the sensor, and recnnect the battery

I am curious as well if you found anything out since your last post or know how much the sensor costs

Holy crap! Yes!! I'm sorry I didn't update this thread!!

The sensor was around $40. But I got lucky and found one out of a totaled XLT we had at my work(I work at a body shop). But, that alone wouldn't work. So I had all but given up, but then I put in heated side mirrors. I wanted the factory defrost button, so I found a new climate control on ebay for $30(I got lucky, typically these are $100 or more) and once I put that in, my ext temp worked!! I actually did a write up on it. I'll link it in the next post.

So here is what know. When you push the two buttons in on he climate control it does a display test of all the segments in the display.

Now on to the rest of you question. I have a 2010 XLT with the temp readout. I replaced my climate controller after I replaced my regular mirrors with heated tow mirrors. My temp display went out and I had to bring it to a dealer to have the programming reset. I know you can add the thermistor and I am pretty sure the wiring is there to do it. I believe you will have to bring it into a dealer to have it turned on so you will be able to use it.

Later Mike
