Default Oil drip on 2012

Quick question. Truck only has 6000 miles and we've owned it about 10 months. I noticed about 7 small drops of oil on garage floor. Took it in to be looked at along with a couple other minor things. My wife just got a call from them that said it was from your oil filter. He says "if you don't drive your car very much sometimes it has a tendency to develop a small drip. When you drive your car, the heat tightens the filter therefore keeping it tight". In all my years I've never heard of such a thing. But before I call BS, wanted to hear from some of y'all. I'm thinking if that's where it was leaking, then the guy just didn't tighten it enough. I'd rather just hear the truth then some made up story. The oil was changed by them at 3000 miles. Thanks in advance for your replies.

i think they didn't tighten it enough. the gasket should seal it weather it sits around alot or not.

crawl under your truck and see where the oil is coming from. could be when they changed the oil it spilled around the filter and they did not wipe it down. new vehicles do not have the problem of gaskets drying out like older vehicles from sitting up. i would do the investigating myself, probably a better mechanic than the dealers use.

That's definitely BS!!! I have two mustangs that sit in my garage and only get driven about 2,000 miles a year. They both have never leaked oil from sitting to long.

The only time I see an oil filter leaking is if it the old seal was not removed from the base plate and the new oil filter was installed over it, the oil filter has a defective seal or it was not put on tight enough.

My Fusion the first time I changed the oil the filter had been dripping right from the factory. I find that the ford filters need to be tightened more than the wix filters that I normally use. Maybe a bad batch of filters I don't know. But when I install ford filters I give a little extra twist just to be sure.

Total BS, probably oil from when changing the filter in the drip tray! Mine drips some off after I change the oil filter, as its hard to reach to clean off the drip tray completely.... Check that first!!!

The best kind of bs is that which sounds plausible to the non - specialist.

I'm with Todd. My dealer removes the entire air Dam tray when doing oil changes because it is impossible to keep dry if you don't. This is residual from the tray I suspect.

Did you look at the drip with your own eyes? I suggest you do in case the oil is coming from the bell housing low point or some other place. Clean it off thoroughly and re-check a few days later to see if it's active. If the covers are all in place then the drip could be coming from anywhere and finding one of the drain holes.
