It was leaking at the filter it wasn't tight per the service guy. It was a salesman who told my wife that. I called him back today and he didn't answer... When he called me back I said I guess you were out on the lot tightening up all the filters on the cars on the lot that haven't been driven... All good now. Thanks for the replies.

if it has been 3000 miles since the oil change and you are just seeing spots i want to say its possible oil changes on these trucks are messy not sure as i never worked on one, but i work for dodge dealer lube tech/apprentice and for example we sometimes get jeep libertys coming back 1 or 2 months later for exact same concern as yours but the libertys the way the oil filter is located it creates for some really messy oil changes. oil will get every where or the diff the frame, steering rack i can use my whole can of brake cleaner on one. so it might just be left over oil

A few posts up they hit on "the tray"

Changing the oil filter......(ohhh I assume we are talking a 5L motor )

it's a real movie. There is a tray on top of the front crossmember just under the rear of the filter. It is hard to see with out a mirror.
Even when you pierce the filter can to drain the filter oil, some residual oil makes it rearward to the filter boss and drips (runs) into this tray....there is a little lip on the front and on the rear of the tray. It is almost impossible to clean all the residual oil off of the tray. thus you might have some oil drips for a few days or who knows how long until there is no more oil to drip.

As to modern spin on filters, they are virtually foolproof. Spin on and 1/2 turn to torque. First the installer should make sure the rubber seal ring is on the filter and properly and a drop or two of oil on that seal.

Other than the above, there should even not a 1/2 drip. Good luck.....

Well, I can tell you that I have done my first oil change on my 2011 XLT SCAB 3.7 V6. The previous oil change was done at the local Ford Dealership. The oil filter was scary loose. I mean I hate when the y are real tight but this one was so loose a small girl could have removed it easily.

Maybe the specs on oil filters is set a tad low, I hand tightened the one I put in and Im sure its a fair bit tighter than the one I replaced.

I hope thats the extent of youre problem
