Default Not Another Key Fob Programming Thread...

Greetings, I have a 2011 STX and I purchased the remote start system from Fairway Ford on Ebay. I installed the antenna, enabled remote start using ForScan, got the keys cut, programmed the key (they both do start the truck,) but I am struggling to get the Fob portion of the new keys to work. I've tried the on/off 8x in various ways; door open, door closed, locked/unlocked when I get in it etc. and nothing is working. I can get the truck to enter programming mode, but when I push the buttons on the fobs the truck will just honk, then when I turn the key back to the off position it does cycle the locks.

I have 2 working OEM key fobs (without remote start)
I have 2 OEM remote start keys with working batteries
I bought the truck used and it's saying it has 7 keys already programmed (I have 2), but the locksmith said that programming new keys would start kicking out the older keys at 8. I tried to program just 1 of the new keys and it still didn't work.

I'm at a bit of a loss here.

Here's what the 2013 Owner's Guide has to say:
Note: A maximum of eight coded keys can be programmed to your vehicle. Only four of these eight can be integrated keyhead transmitters.
I'm guessing that the '11 Owner's Guide says the same, so I'm thinking that you've run up against the four "integrated keyhead transmitter" limit, and you'll have to erase all of the keys using Forscan, then use it to reprogram the keys you have. (You'll need an Extended License for this, but I think you need it to enable a Remote Start, anyway, so I'm guessing you already have one.)

Several people have suggested doing this in the dealer's lot just in case something goes wrong, but a good locksmith should be able to help if needed.

Thanks for the reply and extra info. I didn't realize only 4 could be transmitters. I do have the extended license for ForScan and late last night found the walk-through to erasing and programming new ones. Link below in case anyone ever comes across this thread.

Seems like that might be the route to go.

Did you go from the three button fob to the 4 button?
I asked the dealership if I could get rid of the extra dongle that's only remote start to the 4 button all in one key, they told me no....
Then again they also told me I couldn't add the key pad door handle and had to buy the wireless one.

It depends on what year your truck is. The '11-'14 trucks can use the 4-button keys; two of them come in the remote start kit from Ford. I dunno about the '09-'10 trucks.

No, my 2 original keys were the key and fob all in one. My two new keys are the same, only with the remote start button. I might be different for the 2009-2010 trucks, I know that the 2011-2014 trucks are the only ones (of this gen) that you can just simply enable remote start and get the correct key and have it work, so perhaps the 2009-2010 trucks do something differently with the key.

I have a 2013 STX SCAB. So I should be able to use one key for all functions if I get a new key?
The remote start was apart of my deal so they added it after. Sorry, not trying to high jack your thread

No worries at all mate, I've used ForScan to reprogram my keys using the above directions, so my question has been answered and remote start has been activated in the system and on the dash cluster. In case anyone comes across this, I did not have to get codes, I had a 12 minute security wait after I selected erase and then was prompted to program the new keys.

I don't know that I fully understand your question, do you not have an all in one key? You have a key and fob separate? Did they install an aftermarket remote start?

I have a key with lock, unlock and alarm. Then a separate fob for remote start(see attachment)

I'd like to get rid of the fob and have all 4 on a single key, but the dealer said I couldn't do it

I don't know enough to be certain, but I am not sure why you couldn't use an all in one key. The remote start seems OEM based on the key, but you could use ForScan to see if it's enabled or look for the antenna behind the glove box. You would of course need an all in one key with the remote start, I would get an OEM one. You'd first have to program the chip and then program the buttons.
