Default Need Some Help With A Check Eng. Light Code

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 2012 F150 XLT 3.7 Engine 3.73 Posi rear. About a week later I got a P0456 Check Engine Light Code. I have a Actron Code Reader and I cleared the code after talking with the Chevy Dealer I bought the Truck from. He kinda blew smoke up my *** and said it was probably because I refueled the truck with it running. Well the code came back last night, so there is more than likely something wrong.

The code P0456 after looking it up is a small EVAP Leak coming from the No cap refuel door or receptacle, a Vacuum Leak between the Gas Canister and the Engine, the Solenoid that controls the Gas Canister purge System (for lack of a better word) or a Vacuum Leak somewhere on the Engine.

I think I listed all the possible problems. With this being said, what is the most probable cause? I called the Chevy dealer again and he told me to take it to a local Ford Dealer to have them Diagnose the problem and they will pay/reimburse me.

Anyone that has experience or has experienced this problem could you give me a Ball Park figure on the cost of this repair?

I really appreciate any and all opinions and advice that can be given to me on this.

Thank In Advance,

The Chevy dealer is correct...take it to Ford and let them (Chevy)pay for it. Shouldn't be your headache. If someone else is willing to "Nickel up" my pain is over.

I do agree RougeGT it isn't my headache. By nature I'm always looking to add to my knowledge as a mechanic. Have had tools in y hands since I was knee high to a grasshopper. My profession is a FAA Licensed Aircraft And Powerplant Technician/Mechanic. I work for UAL fixing their Airliners.

Just looking for info -- But thanks for the post

Probably has something to do with the refuel not sealing right.

Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn’t properly tightened.

I have the Cap less Gas Refuel Receptacle, so as for as the "CAP" being on properly is next to impossible. I never refueled with the Truck Running

I know its cap-less, but it still has to close tight, that was just an example from a fomoco website. There have been some other issues with vapor leaks with these.

Had the same issue on my 2010 Mustang, it was the Easy Fuel cap, it was not sealing tight. Dealer ended up replacing it.

If you are intrested, here is a good explanation about what it's doing and a temporary fix.
