Default Mutiple Questions

I posted this same thread in the 2004-2008 model sub-forum. Not sure if I'll go with an 08 or 09 yet.

So I'm thinking about selling my current vehicle(2010 Ram) and purchasing a 2009 F150. If I end up doing this, I will want a crew cab with a 6" lift and 35's on it. The first question, is what type of fuel mileage should I expect? I've done a little bit of research and have read that the Edge programmer is the best for these trucks so I would probably put one on there to help with mileage as well.

I tried finding this question out today but the local dealer in town won't install anything other than a leveling kit. So how much does Ford cost to install a 6" lift? Or does it vary by dealership?

Also, are there any well known problems related to this model?

Thanks

1. If you throw a 6" lift and 35s on your truck, you are completely throwing decent fuel mileage out the window

2. Varies dealer to dealer, shop to shop

A 6inch lift and 35s and talk about mpg is a total oxymoron like going into a Mcdonalds and ordering 3 double cheesey Mc greasburgers and a diet coke.bubbabud 2011 XLT SC ecoboost

I know I won't be getting good fuel mileage but that doesn't answer the question. I was wanting to know what I should expect from it and the result it would have on fuel economy.

To actually answer the question you are Likely going to be around 11-12 highway with no programmer. With a programmer you might pick up 1-2 mpg but it seems like it is different for every truck. You will just have to call around and see what dealer will install it. The dealer in my town sends everything to les Schwab

I have a 2011 FX4 5.0 with a 6 inch BDS lift and 35x12.5 Trail Grapplers on 20 in wheels. Before any engine mods I was getting around 12 mpg mixed city/highway. After doing an afe intake and sct x3 with custom tunes from 5 star tuning I'm getting 14-15 mpg. I'm sure that I can get 16 mpg but after doing the engine mods the trucks runs so much stronger than stock so it's hard to keep my foot off the pedal.

I have just a level and 34.5" tire and my mpg dropped to about 16 mpg highway from 18 mpg. 6" lift and wide 35s, youll probably be looking at a little less, maybe 15 mpg. City varies from driver to driver, i was getting 11 mpg, now 9 mpg but mine is strictly city. As for prices for lift, wheels, tires, installation, etc- it will cost you at least $5k.
fyi, I traded in an 09 ram for my 09 f150 and so far no regrets. Of course I went from an slt to a fully loaded platinum so I may be biased. I do miss the fuel economy (was getting 20 mpg highway no problem) and die hard ford guys may not like to admit it but dodge does make a quick truck.

Fuel mileage will vary with different driving habits. Nobody know how someone drives. Driving habit have a lot to do with fuel economy. Younger folks typically more aggressive drivers than older drivers. As already mentioned there are so many variables it hard to say how good or bad someone else mpg is going to be. Just changing stock wheels and tires out to 35’s is more of a mpg sacrifice that I wouldn’t even consider it.

Ford won't do a 6"...they will send it out to have it done, Labor for a 6" install is anywhere from $800-1200... Gas Mileage should be 11-14 gears would also help MPG but are expensive...known problems ?? depends which truck you buy 08/09

Well if you go with the 5.4L and the 4sp (08 and earlier) you will get 11-12. I had 6" suspension, 33" tires, and had a tune and was supercharged (supercharger didn't change my mileage). Of course this was also in a SCSB truck.
