Default Muffler delete?

Just bought a 2011 f150 xlt and was wondering if anyone has done just a muffler delete? I just want a little more sound without breaking the bank. TIA

Why would you want to delete it? Without the back pressure you will lose; horsepower, mpgs, torque. You can't delete the muffler totally. Best you can do is get something like the old school cherry bomb muffler.

I don't think this is right - you're talking about the muffler, right at the back of the truck, that's a straight through design - doesn't give any back pressure.

Technically there should be no difference other than noise if done.

And loads of people have done it, and many have replaced it with a better muffler, like a Borla. @FerdinandF150 did if i remember correctly.

I’m sure a local muffler shop would help you out. You could either start with just removing the resonator and see how that sounds, or just straight pipe the whole deal. Personally, unless you really want something loud and obnoxious, I’d go with a quality system from Borla or Corsa. I’ve had both and you can’t go wrong.

$$$ though…

6 or 8cyl?

There is a big diff in the sound, and to me (with a 6), some are objectionable. I bought mine with a magnaflow system and it's decent, but some others sound popcorn farty. I don't remember which, but one sounds like an open/airy diesel (sounds pretty dang good).. Just research.
If you've got an 8cyl, pretty much everything sounds good, just ranges between deep and throaty to rappy.

Kids today don't know straight pipes. Growing up, we had sky high pickups with 44's, and pipes that made babies and old ladies cry.

I've

Can we please put this backpressure is good myth to rest once and for all? Read this thread, it's a very nice write-up on how exhaust actually works and how you can make power with it. Read and be educated.

I deleted my muffler and noticed no mpg drop, and it tows my 6k TT the same(ie…no torque loss)

i think I paid 25 bucks for my local muffler shop to weld in a piece of pipe, sounds good too.

My muffler is deleted but kept the factory resonator on. Sounds good, not as load as you think and no drone in the cab. I had a Borla Pro XS on before which sounded good but wasn't loud enough for me. Make sure you keep the resonator on though, that's where people mess up and get wicked drone in the cab when they remove it.

Thinking of deleting the resonator and stock muffler on mine as well. May have to run some kind of performance muffler to keep the tiny, yet stout, 2.7 from sounding like a ricer.
