MPGs - winter gas or something wrong?
Hey all - sorry for another mpg thread. Couldn't find my answer on my search. So I am in Ontario, Canada and we have been having chilly temps the last month or so. I have noticed my mileage taking a huge dive. I did not see this last year although my truck was brand new and wasn't really paying attention to such frivolous this as mpg's.
I have a 13 fx4 screw, Eco. All stock. For the last 8 months since new I have been getting 15L/100 km or just under16mpg. Not great but liveable. I drive 90% in town. Stop and go. Since a fill up on Nov 8 I am now averaging 20L/100km or just under 12mpg. This seems like too big of a nose dive to me, but this is my first truck so I would appreciate some thoughts from others. Maybe those that have been through a winter or two with their Eco. This loss of mpg is equating to almost 200 km or 124 miles lost each tank.
I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealership for a broken rear defroster, so is this worth mentioning or am I just going to have to suck this up through the winter??
Thanks for your thoughts......

To colder it gets the worse your mpg's get. In colder weather the engine sucks up more air since it's more dense that warmer air. My air going into the engine means more fuel being used. Also of you warm up your truck in the morning that effects it too. I have an Eco I have noticed my mpg's drop by 2. It's the combination of cold weather and winter blend of gas.
I have noticed the same thing. I was getting between 20 and 21 on the lie-o-meter (actually between 19 - 20) now I am struggling to get 18.5 on the trip meter. Last year I didn't notice, but I bought my truck in October. I was getting around 17-18 (actual) then in the spring it jumped up to the 20-21 range. I didn't know if it was the summer blend, or the engine finally being broken in. I have a Eco Crew with 3.55 gears.
The remote start doesn't help either.

Went from 13-14 range to mid 11's with my 5.4. Winter gas, extended warm up times, and cold temp's will do that to ya. If you ask me it's just all part of owning a truck but on the plus side you have a warm toosh in the morning and the truck feels faster in the cold!

Your mpg will drop when it gets cold. I used to not even keep track in the winter because of how low it would get, but this truck does it for me. I do have a remote start and it gets used a lot in the winter.
