Default Might pull the trigger on a 2013

The truck in my sig has decided to commit suicide. Head gasket and computer crapped out at the same time - not worth fixing.

I've been lurking this section for a while since I knew my next truck was going to be a coyote or better. I'm really super done with the 04-08 motors.

I've narrowed it down to two trucks.

A 2013 lariat supercrew 4x4 with 150k miles for 16k

Or a 2013 stx supercab with 46k miles for 16.2k

The mileage on the supercab is super appealing but the stx trim is just so bad. The lariat has 4wd which I really don't need or want.

Would I really be sacrificing that much by going with the stx? How handy do you guys reckon the in dash display is?

Help me!

As someone who owns a very basic XLT I would say go with the STX. The Lariat features do nothing except reduce payload and cause problems down the line, I have always felt the simpler the better. As long as you are okay with the Supercab I say go for it.

Go for the STX. I own an XLT and it comes with some nice stuff, but nothing I wouldn't sacrifice. The only thing I feel I absolutely 'need' is the towing package, and frankly, I could've added that stuff aftermarket for $750 or so.

I'm definitely leaning towards the stx. It's 4-5k below trucks all the other trucks in my area which are over 120k miles. I don't do a whole lot of driving so I'll probably be better off with the lower mileage vehicle.

The leather and 110v were what interested me the most. The touchscreen and in dash display were nifty features. I do prefer not having a center console that goes all the way to the dash.... Man this is a tough one.

Lariat's are definitely nice with all those upgrades, but man. That's a lot of miles. I put 180K on my old 2001 Lariat and took extremely good care of it. Even so, after awhile piddly stuff just started to wear out. I started seeing it after I crossed into the second 100K. Door latches, switches, coil packs etc... Nothing catastrophic, but more like a continuing stream of minor repairs that left me glad I had an Amazon Prime account!

I hear you brother. Bought my 04 with 110k miles for $3500. Thought it was a steal. Now at 131k I've put about 3k into it for repairs and the head gasket and computer blew at the same time. I'm so over spending every weekend fixing things. I've been watching some stx videos and I think it's pretty much a lock. I almost never listen to the radio so the touchscreen aint a huge deal. My wife has a touchscreen in her 2006 ford 500 and I find all the extra lights coming from the center console to be a distraction.

The stx is probably a lock at this point unless there are some negative marks on the carfax.

Definitely go with the STX, it's like having a blank slate you can customize to your liking and it'll most likely last a lot longer due to the lower mileage.

The touchscreen is crap. If you want a fancy radio, best route is a low-end model truck like the STX, which is easier to swap in your choice of aftermarket HU.

But that's a really low price, hidden problems?

I got the 2013. I gotta say the 5.0 compared to the 4.6... there's no comparison. The readily available power is just amazing.

Nothing wrong with it that I can tell, but! The gas gauge is stuck - I'm hoping this is just a result of it sitting for so long and will work itself out, and the fans are extremely loud. The dealer agreed to replace the fans already and if the gas gauge doesn't sort itself out they'll fix that too.
Otherwise I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase!

There's the old gal in the back. RIP

Definitely made the right choice.

Anything missing from the STX that the lariat had can easily be added (minus 4x4), but you can't remove mileage!!
