Default Manual Shift Switch install?

So I am considering a new project.
I'm thinking of adding a switch to the steering wheel that controls the manual shifting which is currently on the gear selector. (+,-)
I'll either go with a single Up/Down switch or 2 separate switches having the UP on the right side and the DOWN on the left side.
I'm thinking I can strip down the shifter to get at the wires leading into the Tow/haul button /+,- area and tap into the existing +,- .
Any thoughts on this. Has anyone else tried or considered this?
Thanks guys.

Yup! easy to do! I just figured out which two wires did the +/- from the orginal button and tapped into them and I actually ran it to my console/jumpseat.

That's awesome. That was actually the other place I was considering putting a switch. I usually drive with 1 hand at the top of the steering wheel so a switch there makes more sense.
That's great. Thanks for the pic. Look good bud.

Hey. I got a couple questions for ya.
Do you recall anything about the wiring setup? How many wires you have to splice into? We're there 2 for the + and 2 for the - or something different?

I'm hoping for the 4 wire setup because I'm planning on using 2x Momentary Push Button Switches. (One for the + and one for the -)
Any help here would be great. I don't want to buy the switches until I know for sure if they will work.
Thank you sir.

From what I remember this was almost 2 years ago now it was only two wires that I had to tap into on the plug harness.

Cool mod. I was actually thinking about this. The manual shift button is so awkward to hit on the column shifter.

Here you go!
Below is the location on the connector and the wiring.
There are three wires to look for .
Pin 4 YE/VT is the power or switch control wire so if you wanted to use the two you posted then you would split the wire to both.
Pin 3 GY is the gear up and would go to the other side (ONE) of the switches
Pin 5 GN/VT is the gear down and would go to the other switch!
