Mail from Ford: 5 year warranty on the APIM

Hi everybody,
I'm seeing a lot of chatter surrounding the 12M02 APIM warranty extension letters that went out to some owners recently. Just send the VIN in a PM and I'll be happy to verify if this applies to your vehicle.
In the interest of customer satisfaction, Ford Motor Company has extended the limited warranty on the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) to 5 years for Ford vehicles. This coverage begins from the warranty start date.
If it is determined that the APIM does need to be replaced within the indicated time limitations, your dealership has been authorized to replace it for free.
I've also noticed some confusion around software updates. If you have MyFord Touch in your truck, I recommend updating to V3.6.2. If you're running this version, then you're golden! If V3.6.2 has been installed, the last 5 digits of the CCPU number will read: 13171. Check this by pressing the 2 gears at the bottom of the MyFord Touch screen, then selecting HELP, then SYSTEM INFORMATION.
Some of you have mentioned V3.7 being available from our website as a software update. This is a very minor update that is only available for 2014 and newer My-Touch equipped vehicles. Because this update is designed to support features in markets outside of North America, you won't notice a big difference if you do decide to install it. Just make sure you're at least running V3.6.2. That's the important part!
Let me know if I can help out with anything else.
Kim

Mine is a 13 w/MFT and I got the letter. It was built at the end of September, and I bought it at the end of November.
I'm surprised it was still a 13, but it is what it is, and I'm current up to this notice.

Kim, I have a question that is a little bit on, and a little bit off topic.
Do you know if a vehicle such as the 2014 (w/nav/MFT) F150 will be compatible with Sync 3.0?
If it's more than just software, do you know if Ford will be offering a retrofit kit?

I think you misunderstand the crux of my question.
Since Ford is extending the warranty of the apim, perhaps their planning a retrofit kit in the future.
I'm sure others here on the forum would like to know about the answer to this too.
I realize that Ford are now using different hardware for Sync 3, but with some hardware swapping (Apim for example) could allow the new system to be retro fitted. There are so many aftermarket boxes to make our trucks do all kinds of things, anything is possible. I would imagine there would be demand enough out there for Ford to justify making a such a kit.

I'm happy to verify if the letter applies to you! Just send the VIN and a PM (and remind me why you're sending it).

I just responded to your PM, but I'll answer here too in case others are curious.
Even though Ford just announced that SYNC 3 will be introduced next year, the APIM warranty extension letters don't have any connection with the new system.
The extension is being offered to show our commitment to the current technology. We are learning to support our products in a similar manner as the consumer electronics industry, which impacted the decision to go beyond the standard warranty.
SYNC 3 will not be available as an aftermarket option for current owners.
