Is there a limited slip or locking rear differential for the 2WD 2011 model truck.

I hate getting stuck with only one tire that turns...

Whats it cost?

Is it easy to install?

Detroit Truetrac. Around $500 for the differential if I remember right and another $500-$700 for the install probably. I would definitely have it installed by someone who knows what they are doing.

First thing I would check into is your local wrecking yard. You or a buddy have the tools to swap the rear differential out that would be cheapest way to go. I got a limited slip for a F-350 for $250.00 and had it in and on the road in 3 hours.

Where are you getting stuck? Do you go offroading regularly? If so, then I would opt for a 4x4. If you're just using it as just a street truck, then stick with a 2wd and save some $$$ as I'm sure you don't have to contend with snow down there.

The F-150 has an "electronic" traction control that acts like a limited slip, and from most of the feedback from guys on here, it works pretty well. It is not mechanical, so when the computer/abs system senses wheel slip, it applies more brake to that wheel to attempt to transfer power to the wheel with better traction. If I stab my throttle from a stop, I can chirp both tires and leave 2 marks.

On top of that, Ford offers an electronic locking differential with every gear ratio, I believe. It is about a $400 option. Well worth it if you ask me. You can get this option on both 4x2's and 4x4's. When engaged, this will give you equal 50/50 power distribution to both rear wheels. I think it deactivates at 25 mph.

An LSD is better for a daily driver. With an e-locker, you really only want to use it if you're stuck. You have to worry about going around turns with an e-locker engaged if there isn't enough opportunity for the inside wheel to slip.

Default elocker

The E-locker sounds like what I want...I don't use the truck for off road..but have gotten stuck when one wheel got stuck in mud...

How much for the elocker...does the dealer put this option on?

Well I don't know how much it costs. But I think it would be more trouble than what its worth. I Detroit locker would be a better choice. With the electric locker you have to wire it all up to the computer.

A couple options, Eaton makes an electric locker, ARB makes an air actuated locker. Both are on demand types meaning you flip a switch and they lock. Both have very good reputations offroad an they install independent of the trucks systems.

You could go for a lunch box locker which is a cheaper option and works great, it is locked when there is torque applied and springs disengage it when coating around turns. It does take a lilt different driving style but you don't have to activate it, it just works.

If I were you I would look into a Detroit trutrac, it's a mechanical limited slip.
