Looking for advice...
I found this site a few weeks back and looks like a lot of good info here.
So here is my story,
I have been a Chevy guy for 20+ years. My first truck was an '85 Ranger with no extras. From there I went to a '87 Silverado (Still my favorite), then a '99 Silverado and then a '01 that I still have. I am selling my '01 to buddy of mine this spring or summer, when his boy turns 16. So I am looking for a new truck. I was going to find a late model 3/4 ton diesel, but they are hard to come by and I can buy a new 1/2 ton gasser cheaper.
We bought a 2010 Ford Fusion last year and we are pretty happy with it. Which got me thinking of looking at Fords. I have looked at a Chevy, F150, Dodge and a Toyota. All have their things that I like and things I don't like.
I drove both a '10 and '11 F150 CrewCab with a 5.4 and the new 5.0 engines. The 2011 with the 5.0 was a snappy engine and seemed to have more get up and go comaired the 5.4L engine.
I want to drive the new EcoBoost engine and the 6.2L as well before I make my mind up.
I don't tow a lot of heavy loads. I have a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer with my dirtbikes. It is not the weight but the wind that I find that really loads my truck. Once in a while I will pull a skidloader trailer with some weight, but that is once in a great while.
I like the idea of the EcoBoost but I have to admit I am nervous about it. A turbo on diesel engine is one thing but on a gas engine is another. With it being twin turbo, you have twice the trouble when things go wrong.... With a price tag of $40,000+ I will keep this truck for a while, problably another 10 years. So I want something that is going to be dependable, but with more power and ecomomy then my 5.3 powered Chevy.
I know these are all new engines for 2011. I look forward to hearing reviews as we get more populated with these trucks.
Who knows, your comments may convert me over to Ford truck....

Why not at least consider the 3.7 V6? It will tow what you need (up to 6,100 lbs) is peppy, saves you a couple of thousand up front (considering option packages) and saves you money at the gas pump (rated 1 MPG better than the EB).
At least try one and tell us what you think. I really like mine.

I still believe there is no replacement for displacement. Which is got me thinking of the 6.2L. I believe it gets the same mpg's that I am getting with my '01 Chevy and ~ 125 more hp.....
I have been playing with dirt bikes and ATV's for some time now. I learned the hard way that yes you can build lots of power in a small displacement engine. The problem is it will not last very long....
If I am going to lay down 40K I don't want to rebuild an engine a year after warranty is up or be unhappy that I did not go with another option.
The rest of the truck I am pretty impressed with. Just hope SYNC works better on the '11 trucks better than they do in the wife's '10 Fusion....

+1. The closest I've been to being wrong on that is the EB engine, but I much rather have a bigger engine that runs at lower RPMs in general. There is just something cool about going 75 with the engine running in the low 2000s.
Ha that's just the thing. If you go on youtube and look up ecoboost test drive there's several videos showing the truck loaded with a 6500 pound trailer taking an offramp like it was nothing. Shows it plain as day the truck going exactly 75mph in the 2000rpm range. Remember that the ecoboost reaches full 420 ft pounds of torque in the very low rpms. Just look at the torture test videos as well, engine looks promising.
I understand where you are coming from about the EB. Thats why I went with the 5.4L because it is a tried and proven engine. I had one in my 05 FX4 and loved it. I do not need a tone of pep since its a truck and not a car so if I need to haul something that I can do but I will not be out racing any skylines any soon. So if your gonna be doing towing just make sure you get either the 5.4 or nothing smaller than the 5.0 if you go '11, and the trailer brake controller if you have brakes on your trialer. Hope this helps.

I want to drive all 3 back to back. Stopped by another Ford dealership today. No Ecoboost in my area for a while. Might see one in 6-9 weeks. Then I am on a waiting list at 3 different dealerships to drive one. Have not seen a 6.2L either.
The sales man I talked to today said he drove an Ecoboost and he was impressed. Of couse he is a salesman.... They had truck they drove around, then pulled an enclosed trailer, then loaded the trailer with another truck and headed for the interstate. He claimed that it pulled better than most V8 he has drove.
I asked about the 6.2L and fuel economy. He claims that he has customers that are getting 21 mpg with 4wd and 3.55 gear ratio. I would have to see this to believe it.
I really want to drive a couple of these......
