Default LED’s

Finally got around to adding LED’s! What a hug difference. Fog lights are next. Any suggestions on using white or yellow?

Which leds did you go with? Do you notice any shadows in the beam? I'm thinking about doing the same with mine. Thanks.

Got them from Amazon,, brand was Torchbeam. So far all good, no shadows or flashing.

Conventional internet wisdom says it is a waste of time to install LED bulbs without changing the entire housing to one designed for them. But the factory lights on my 2014 sucked big time. After buying a 2020 Explorer with factory LED's and seeing the difference, I decided it was worth a try. I ordered these from Amazon.

Amazon.com: HIKARI VisionPlus H13/9008 LED Bulbs,15000LM,Dual Beam,30W TOP XHP50.2 LED Equivalent to 100W Ordinary LED,High Lumens LED Kit,Canbus Ready,IP68 Waterproof,Halogen Upgrade Replacement,6000K White : Tools & Home Improvement Amazon.com: HIKARI VisionPlus H13/9008 LED Bulbs,15000LM,Dual Beam,30W TOP XHP50.2 LED Equivalent to 100W Ordinary LED,High Lumens LED Kit,Canbus Ready,IP68 Waterproof,Halogen Upgrade Replacement,6000K White : Tools & Home Improvement

No, they aren't as good as the ones on my Explorer but are a significant improvement and well worth what I paid. They don't really project the light beam farther down the road, but they are a brighter, whiter light.

I can't speak for all LEDs, but mine do not blind other drivers on low beam. On high beam maybe, but that is true with any bulb. It is important to get them adjusted properly. The light beam is in a flat oval shape. You rotate the bulbs after installing them so that oval is flat with the road. If I were to turn mine just a few degrees, it might cause problems by getting up into oncoming driver's eyes.

Glare is mostly just the picture. When driving doesn't seem bad.

Bulbs are pre set to make sure the led’s are on the side of the bulb when locked in. I think that is the key.

Why do people post pictures of the lit up headlights when they install LEDs? I mean we all know they are going to be bright. Lol. Post a picture of the output as seen from the driver's seat. This will show us how well they illuminate the roadway.

I recall once seeing leds that have white & yellow leds that you can switch between (standard fitting like the 9140 / 9145 for reference).

I had to clock 1 of my H13 Torchbeam leds,
My brother N law didn't have to adjust his H13 Torchbeam leds.

I also currently have H11 torchbeam leds in a ford with a factory halogen projection housings.
(Each time I changed the lighting in this vehicle the better it got within reason.
--In Order--
H11 torchbeam leds
H11 Auxbeam S3 leds (had 1 to stop working after about 13months while out of town, luckily I had the H9s in the vehicle for emergency's)
H9 halogens
H11-LL (longlife) stock
I dont like the light control of the factory halogen projection housings, I ended up adding a light bar behind the grill of this vehicle faced maybe 20deg towards the ground (I don't get flashed). (Fords hid projection housing works very well).

The 1st set of 9140 / 9145 leds I tried had no beam (only scattered haze looking from behind the steering wheel = useless. Note-The led chips were mounted on a cylinder shaped drum) & I actually reinstalled the standard 9145 bulbs after about 30 minutes. A couple months later I reinstalled those cylinder shaped leds to test again & I removed them quicker the 2nd time.

The 2nd set of 9140 / 9145 leds I tried had a good beam of light (The led chip was placed to mimic the oem filament location) but even though they have good reviews I found these leds would cause radio interference on a few distant stations.
