Just Couldn't Pull the Trigger
Well my reason for trading was completely different. I had a lot of problems with the 2010 (2010 F150 Crew 5.4L 4WD 3.55LS 5.5' bed 'flame blue' ) in it's 2nd year of ownership. Many chassis problems and the continueing transmission troubles. A buy back from Ford would had cost me a lot with the mileage charge back so my dealer gave me a really good trade in price.
Of course it all depends on how much you bought your truck to begin with, but I lost less than $5000 for 2 years of use and 34,000 miles. That is really pretty good as depreciation loss can be much more than that.
It was well worth it. I gained lower payments, lower interest rate, and a 125,000 mile, 6 year Premium extended warranty with only a $50 deductable.
On the actual truck, I gain a better grey interior where the 2010 only offered a very light cream stone color that I wish was darker. I also gained a better 5.0L engine and a better redesigned transmission. Gained some other upgrades as electric steering, shoulder seat belts and headrests on the front and rear center seats. Traded a limited slip axle for a locking rear axle. Plus gained better mileage. I also have some packages I didn't have before as the Plus Package with sliding rear window with defroster and backup sensors, sirius radio, chrome package, and keyless Entry Keypad.
For me, it was a win win situation but I gave bottom dollar on the 2010 due to the Xplan and was able to get a great trade in price on the 2010 as well. If you paid a lot for your 2010, and can't get a good trade in price and/or a good buy price on the 2013, it'll be best to keep your 2010. Plus I got $6,500 rebates on both trucks as they were both year end models. Bought 2010 at beginning of Jan. 2011 and bought 2012 at end of Nov. 2012 . About 1 month, 1 week shy of 2 years of use.
Good luck.

Same here. You took very good care of your truck. It has depreciated way beyond its intrinsic value. Why make a gift of that useful life to someone else?
Do you absolutely need a truck in your daily work life, or do you drive a truck by choice? If you drive a truck by choice, the good thing about a truck is that you never have to trade it in. After several years you buy a complementary car to round out your needs. Something that gets high mileage, probably. Meanwhile, the truck continues to give good service, although it is relieved from some of its daily commuting duties. You drive the high mpg car when that's advantageous, and the truck when you need to move things. Each takes a load off the other. This goes on for several more years......your costs get lower and lower.

To the guy talking about crazies with 500 dollar a month payments, maybe that is a deal breaker in the States but things are good here in Canada, I cover my "crazy" truck payment in 2 days of work. I am 23.

as for me;
i bought my 2010 screw xtr xlt 4x4 5.5box w/3:55 diff.... for three reasons.
1) i prefer to drive a pickup
2) dog. she never rides in the cab of my truck. got her a leer 100XL last summer.
3) if one (or two) slips past the goalie; i got room for them in the back and don't need to worry about being kicked in the back of the seat.
my mom got a new 2013 mkx; loaded out black on black on black...
she wanted to trade off her 2003 intrepid. dealership only offered her 3000 for it. so, she kept it. asked me if i wanted to buy it. i offered her 10k for it so my gf has a car to drive.
mom has 500 000 kms on the odo now. its black on black on black cloth with a sun roof. it was the top of the line intrepid, minus the leather. when the odo hit 480 000 kms, mom had the motor and trans rebuilt.
so, its a ten year old car, with a new motor n trans and body is in great shape cause it was always in a garage. and she's had an after market deck in the dash since it was paid off... so no wireing issues when i drop a set of tens in the trunk.
i figure the insurance is gonna be cheap as hell for the gf, and motor n trans have full warranty, and comes with a set of winter tires on stock chrome rims as well as a set of summer tires also on stock chrome rims.
the chrome is peeling off on the original rims, so i may decide to plastidip just for fun, and to finish the "murder out".

garage kept, motor and tranny rebuilt 15000-20000kms ago.
this thing litterly is brand new, bumper to bumper.
and it wasn't a plain ol' intrepid, appearently it's been modded out to da tittties...
chances are, i won't end up paying 10k for it. if i do, i'm confident she's gonna put the extra money in some sort of retirement or down payment for a house.
Exactly! We also have a nice little sporty Mazda 3 GT. I still prefer the truck when grocery shopping, and so does the girlfriend! Can only stack so much in the back of that little car.

what do ya do for work?
goose spit beach is a great place in the summer.
seems to me you missed the part where the motor and tranny got rebuilt.
the car, only has 15000km on it, and everthing that has or was about to go wrong, has been replaced.
insurance is cheap on a 10 year old car, with no rust and always garage kept.
7k for the motor and rebuild
3k for the car
chances are, she's only charging my gf the full price, in case we break up, at least mom gets her coin.
and the gf has a reliable car even if we break up.
A new motor and trans does not increase the value much if at all, the rest of the car is still worn out, ball joints, tie rods, cv axles, seats, well you get the idea. But if you think it does then next time you need a good used car give me a call and I'll find you a great one for 10, 000!
