Default Hum in 2wd

Just recently put on a ready lift 2" leveling kit, got everything put back together and now I'm hearing a humming noise when in 2wd but goes away when out in 4 high. Almost sounds like when you hear big mud tires going down the road. Just dropped it off to get aligned but probably think it's something else. It's a 2014 FX4 5.0 any help?

You broke the IWE actuator upon reassembly - teeth probably weren't aligned with the teeth on the cv shaft.

Here's pretty much this exact same thread:

Yup most likely. If you pulled the cv out of the spindle to do it then didn't make sure the cv wsa locked into the IWE before tightening up the bolt it was prob killed when the first turn on the wheel happened.

Well that sucks guess I should have tripled checked it. so what's the process when I replace them? I thought I had the teeth all lined up to begin with. Also obviously they need to be replaced right away but since it is my daily is it safe to drive or will I cause more damage?

Safe to drive. But annoying. You should not have removed them to do a leveling kit.

When doing my leveling kit there was no reason to remove them. When doing my 4" BDS lift install they had to be removed and transferred to the new spindles. You have to make sure you rotate the CV by hand with the hub until the IWE locks in and the hub turns the CV before you tighten the 10mm hub nut.

Watch this video it explains it all greatly, I watched this before doing mine. Other way is you have to pull a vacuum on them when installing and cap the line to hold the IWE in.

Okay, yea definitely on the annoying side. When doing the install I couldn't get the lower control arm to drop enough to even coming close to getting the strut out. Then searching around the forum I found a how to that mentioned unbolting to cv axle in order to get the lower control arm to drop more.

Okay so today after work I did some checking. When the truck off both cv axles are locked and can not rotate, with truck running and in 2wd the driver side can be rotated by hand but the passenger side seems locked and can not rotate, when put in 4wd while engine running both sides are locked again and can not rotate. Is this an okay way to diagnose if one side or both side are not functioning properly? Could I have lucked out and only the passenger side is bad? It's not a loud noise and when the radio on and volume pretty low it, I can't hear the humming.

Yup, you're good with just replacing the passenger side. IWE is locked in 4x4 naturally. When truck is running, vacuum pulls it out of engagement (if it's working properly).
