I don't speak for everyone but in my case I like to know my truck is locked because I'm usually out the door and away from the truck beyond my being able to hear the door locks click. The beep gives me assurance it's locked as I walk away.

According to the manual, the only reason the horn will honk twice when locking is:

Doors not closed
Hood is open (Must have remote start or anti-theft alarm for this to trigger two honks)

it doesn't have to have remote start to have a hood pin switch. that's how mine came. i didn't have to install/alter the hood switch when i added the OEM remote start.

I only hit my lock button twice when I want to sound annoying like everyone else. I usually just hit the lock button once and the doors lock, no beep, no horn.

I'd rather it didn't beep at all, but that's not a setting owners are allowed to adjust. I do want some confirmation that the vehicle is locked or unlocked. My car flashes the blinkers 3 times for lock, once for unlock.

I'll monkey with the hood pin tonight and see what happens.

That's what mine originally did, now it beeps twice on the second press of the key button.

Just went outside pulled the hood release closed the door and hit the lock button twice and it beeped twice real fast, closed the hood hit it twice again and only one beep. I do have the oem remote start but the horn beep 1 time with a double click has always beeped the horn once, it did that on my 97 Taurus SHO and my 2004 Explorer.

My lights only blink once for lock or unlock, don't matter which. Do you have an aftermarket alarm?

Well I guess you better not park near me because I don't care how annoying any one thinks it is, to me it is confirmation my truck is locked so tough ****.

maybe the pin is in from the factory but not attached to anything until the remote start is put in. My quote was direct from the manual .
