Silverstars are NOT brighter than hids. Anybody who tells u this, has never had hid lights. They cause a glare towards oncoming drivers. I used to get flashed all the time in my old truck. I'd suggest u buy a set of projectors and then put hids in them, but if ur on a budget and don't mind getting flashed by oncoming cars every once in a while (depending on where u live) just install the hids in the stock housings. A lot of people say they aren't much brighter than stock...BULL**** lol. Just about anything is brighter than our stock headlights. Of course, if u wanna go the legal route, u could install the silverstars, which are also brighter than stock.

I agree that on most vehicles not designed for HID's they can cause offensive glare but I'm not sure this applies to the newer F150's.
yes i do have first hand experience. my experience is with the lights for the 04-08 generation, so possibly hid's do work better with the 09+ housings, i cannot say for myself though. however i do know for my headlights hid's were awful, gave terrible scattered output and all i did was **** off on-coming drivers. i just think if you're going to do hid's, invest the extra $ and do it right and get a quality kit and projectors. like i said the new housings may be better than the older ones, but ford didn't design the housings for hid's, but for halogens. hid's may last long, they may not. it all depends on kit quality and how much time you spend with your lights on. i have nothing against hid's i think they're great, i just think anyone who gets them shouldn't do like i did and cut corners, they should do it right.

and never go higher temp than 10k! blue headlights suck!

As for HIDs not being much better than halogen when used in stock housings (09+, anyway), BALONEY! I can now see MUCH better than with the stock bulbs. On dark east Texas roads, that is important. Night & day difference. I went with 5000K. The purple look is not for me. As for glare, other drivers don't flash me since I've installed them. I like the look of the factory housings.

It seems like the people who are against HID's in our trucks are folks who have '08 and earlier trucks or those who purchased cheap HID's that did not last. The owners of '09 & later housings with quality HID's appear to be very happy with the upgrade results. Also, the consensus seems to be, go with 5000-6000k for best light output & white color.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Just trying to get to the bottom of this debate since there's so much mis-information on here.

Yeah. The "Put HIDs in stock housings and people will die!!!!" bullsh*t is getting old. Stick with 35 watt & good quality.

I had DDM 35w 6k in my heads and fogs. Great light output and no halogen will compare in the stock housings. They are cheap though and extremely slow. I've already lost a ballast for the fogs and had a bulb in my headlights burn out. Replaced the headlights with a 55w 5k kit and the light output again is amazing. I adjusted the lights down but still get flashed and the harness DDM sent doesn't work. I have up and ordered a set of anzo projectors which I will put hid in the low beams and osram night breaker plus in the high beams. Supposedly twice as bright as silverstars so I'm going to give them a shot.

i had alot of issues with bad ballasts and bulbs and stuff burning out, i had a cheap kit and i almost never knew if it was going to work. i wish i had gone with 6k's though, then i'd actually been able to see with them and might have kept them haha.
hope your projectors turn out good!
