Now hid bulbs in stock housings should not be done for the fact you will blind other drivers and it's not that much Better then stock any one who does this needs to be drug into the street and smacked!!!
alright? glad i gave you a good laugh, but i'll pass on sitting on the corner. yes, hid's are amazing WITH PROJECTORS, but the op didn't mention them, so more than likely he was planning on putting them in the stock housings like most people that don't know hid's do, which you yourself said "it's not much better then [*than] stock". hop off me bro, just trying to help the guy. damn trolls.

The title of the thread is " hid help", that should have been a clue to what the op was asking about. Just giving you a hard time.

Either use projectors or stick to Halogen replacements. High kelvin HIDs in the factory housing = ricer glare. Performance sucks.

I had stock HIDs in my 06 G35...def brighter than the silver stars BUT must states by law do not allow for after market HIDs...if done right I'm sure the cops will leave you alone.

BTW if you want better lighting....well you could have gone by and gotten the silver star head lights with the 9145 fog lights and have have been enjoying much improved visibility already..my advice go down to your auto store today and pick some up...not saying I'm rich BUT $42.00 for both head lights...$21x2 for the fog lights...= much better lighting on the road until you pull the trigger on the HIDs....$84 investment and you might just settle for the silver stars...compared to spending much more on HIDs....

On that note...Dear ford please make HIDs an option in your upcoming models ;-)

Forgot to mention, I was considering HIDs as well but the ultras are so much better than stock that I'm happy with them....and if one goes out...no big deal between driving to the auto store and taking out the headlight housing...fixed within 45 mins from store to driveway :-)

Also I have had silver stars on past vehicles and they never last longer than a year. And buying them from autozone or wherever, they are 59.00 a set. I've herd that HIDs last a lot longer than halogens, I don't know that for sure.

Anyway. I was jus kinda hoping someone would post that has had a certain brand for a few years and has had good luck with them. Thanks for all the input fellas

like mSall said, performance with hid's in stock housings just sucks and does nothing but cause glare. they weren't designed for that kind of output, which is where projectors come into play because they were designed to handle that output and make the lighting controlled but bright.

Do you have firsthand experience with this on the new F150? I ask because there have been some posters on here that have indicated that our stock housings work very well with HID's and have a better cutoff than some projectors. It sounded like the key is to get high quality HID's so that they last longer. I agree that on most vehicles not designed for HID's they can cause offensive glare but I'm not sure this applies to the newer F150's.
