Hard to say what you'd be in for. Do you want to replace or upgrade? If you're replacing- what on your old plant is still usable on the top end? If you're upgrading... dig deep. Ford Racing is listing some up to and over $20,000. It all falls down to budget. And, the companies that offer them are as diverse as the price and quality.
In all honesty, maybe you should take it in to Ford, let them go over it top to bottom. Even if it costs you a couple hundred, they may pinpoint a problem that is easily fixed- not cheap likely, but maybe not the end of the world. Just a thought mind you.

Default Which VINs will Work?

Mine is an 8th digit V of the VIN, 2009, 3V. Are there any other drop in engines besides the V, and what are the differences?
Why wont a 5.4L from a Super Duty or Navigator work, or will it?

Bullet90, where are you located at in PA? Have you thought about a rebuild of your current engine using hot rod cams and other frpp used for the raptor. Cj Pony parts has redone several 5.4L motors and could help with the tuning.

TBH, I have to agree with the comment above- I think dollar for dollar you are going to be best to go into a dealership or a shop of your choosing and let them go over it.
A swap is going to run some pretty big numbers unless you go with a used or junkyard 5.4, and then you don't know what you're getting.
When you're crossing years, makes, models, etc. you will be looking at different wiring harnesses, tunes, transmission mounting, motor mounts, all sorts of little "gotcha's". For figures, an OEM 5.4L without the top end is (here in Canada) around $5000.00 delivered- I asked the parts guys at my dealership just out of curiosity. So, you need to basically migrate the brains from your old one to the new block. What if something is cooked?

Anyways, you can see where I am going with this. A good rebuild will cost you far less than a new engine- and unless the cylinders are completely scored and gouged to hell, or the blocked somehow cracked or the deck warped, it can be rebuilt. Most likely the issue you will face with the lack of oil pressure is the bearings will be cooked, the rings, and possibly valves. I suspect that your heads will OK, as will the main components such as crank, rods, pins, pistons (unless the they decided to have some face time with your cylinder walls) and cams. Bearings and drive components will be replaced naturally, and tolerances will be checked and rechecked and corrected- journals and such. As long as you don't continue to drive it in it's state, then it may be salvaged.

If you go the replacement engine route, just be prepared to shell out some coin! If you provide a VIN for us, we can find you a crate 5.4 pretty quick. Also, if in doubt, contact Ford or another reputable parts dealer- they will walk through it with you. I don't want to give you any part numbers or solid "how to's" since this is going to be a big project and I am by no means a pro. I have never tried to get into the newer iron for rebuilds, I stopped tearing them down when they became more complicated than I cared to deal with

Is it possible it's stuck "limp" mode? Grab the codes and then clear them and see what happens.

Have you had a mechanic check it out? Maybe it is something that can be fixed and its not catstrophic, like a rounded cam lobe.

I think your going to be ok , a motor will run a little while with no oil , take it to a smart mechanic and and bring some brownies (aka car talk) you might need something simple, after that let them change your oil a couple times

I am located in Northwest, PA, about 90 miles NE of Pittsburgh. I am going to get a tester and check the codes, write them down and try to reset them and see what happens.

I am leaning towards buying a used engine w/warranty and keeping my 5.4 as a project engine, maybe. I am feeling from what I have researched that the VCT Phasers, Rails, Timing Chain Tensioners are at fault (at minimum). I can get a used 5.4 with less mileage and warranty for around $2500 delivered.
BTW, the VIN is 1FTPX14V79FB39784
Any help finding an engine would be appreciated.
