Default Help With Engine Swap

Hello All. I recently had a mishap during an oil change and I double sealed the filter which pinched the old seal between new filter and gasket creating a major leak. It pumped out 7 quarts in 1.4 miles, CEL came on and I shut down. Anyways, I am looking to purchase a used engine. The original was a 5.4L Triton in my 2009 F-150 XLT 4X4 (8th VIN Digit V).
My question is. am I stuck with the 5.4L or will other used engines 'Drop In' without much problem?

Thanks Guys!

Is the motor actually bad? Some engines will run for hours without oil, others mere seconds.

X2

If it is blown then you have to decide how much you are will to pay? Because I know even dealing completely with used parts engine swaps are not cheap. At all. I've been looking into it for my TJ with a 5.7 I've got in the garage.. Now you probably would have to replace less parts but none the less, your gonna be looking at a minimum of 3k unless you are a god at finding parts, have the time to take working on the truck on your own, and want it to run well.

Honestly if your motor is blown I would recommend replacing it with another 5.4

My engine will start and run but do to the oil pressure dependent parts of the engine, it is severely screwed up. Timing chain tensioners, cam rollers, etc, have left it running like it is badly out of time and possibly running on <8 cylinders. I want to buy a used motor and maybe part-out the old on eBay.

BTW
$2500 for a used 5.4L is common on eBay motors.
Appx $200 to ship and around $740 to Swap motors.
Me and My Brother in law have a 48X80 Garage with all the tools required for a weekend project (or more). A couple cases of beer and a handshake for labor will suffice.
What I nee to know is what engines will 'drop' into my truck. I really dont want to go down to a 4.6 but I will, if the price is right. I would rather go up than down though, as far as engine size.

Stick with the same 5.4, otherwise you are probably looking at a computer swap as well.

switching engines would be more of a pain than going with the same you would need a new PCM and wiring harness and who knows what else sensors and **** that dont come with the used on i would go with the 5.4

Dumb question but did you refill it with oil clear the codes and run it a bit? If the top end goes dry it's definitely going to cause some problems, but some may clear themselves up after they are properly lubricated again. Would still cause some unwanted and premature wear but could last awhile?

You can get a used 5.4 or rebuilt, but at the end of the day how much do you want to spend?
Since I've been known to be pretty stupid at times, I'd use this as an excuse to get a built 5.4 or 5.8 crate. Much bucks, but damn it'd be sweet. The sky is the limit then. And they are readily available.
5.0 or anything else? Enh. I'd take it or leave it I guess. Great engines, but how interchangeable are they really? Depends on the price. If I were completely changing the mill to a different cube and was replacing the computer etc anyways I'd go 6.2.

Just my .02
