It's held in by 3 bolts. 2 on top and 1 in the front. It may require some effort to pull the housing out.

Hope this helps, its right from the owners manual:

Replacing headlamp bulbs

1. Make sure that the headlamp control is in the off position and open
the hood.

2. Remove the pushpin that holds
the air deflector/protective cover
from the upper inboard corner of
the lamp.

3. Loosen the three retaining bolts
(two at top of lamp, one at lower
inboard corner).

4. Once the three retaining bolts have been removed, slide the headlamp
assembly forward, disconnecting the two snap attachments at the fender.

5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling rearward.

6. Remove the bulb and socket by
turning it counterclockwise, then
pull it straight out.

The above are the correct steps for the 09-11 in the owners manual however handy hints from someone who did the harley light swap and upgraded to sylvania silverstars-

1. Dont forget the pushpin that holds the deflector in place has a screw that must be loosened actually in it. (I had one hell of a DURHHHHHHH moment when I figured that out after I couldnt see the screw in the dusk lighting in my driveway...)
2. Step 4 in the instructions makes it sound soooooo easy to slide out the assembly. Prepare to injure thy fingertips especially if this is the first time you are pulling the assembly on a new truck. Just keep pulling straight out.
3. Step 6 will leterally bruise your fingertips trying to get the lights out. Why Ford has never heard of "hand tight" with parts like these I will never know...best to have patience and wear some mechanics gloves (the fabric kind from autozone) to protect the fingers if they slip off of the socket during the removal process for the bulbs.

No. I have to take the bumper off my VW to swap but not the F150. Just those 3 bolts and some tugging on the housing. You will probably have to fold over or remove the plastic screw for the rubber flap in front of the front facing bolt for the headlight housing.

Here's a picture. The front facing bolt is the one above the 2 grey bolts. I pointed at it with a piece of foam. I just folded over the rubber in front.

When threads come back from the dead...

...Is this DIY valid for 2013s as well? I'm replacing my factory XLTs with 2012 Raptor headlights (non HIDs) and a quick search yielded this thread.
